Paying $60 or more for a chunk of steel is retarded. I have made them for nearly nothing. The one currently on my car is a former trailer hitch ball. Weight is perfect.

Cut off stud, drill, tap (M10x1.25 thread), polish or paint as desired, screw it on. Obviously, this is easier if you have access to a lathe, but you can use a hand drill and a vice, too.

I have access to a lathe, I would just want a metal ball like that to be coated in something rubber. That's the part I've been unsure about.

I suppose you could plasti-dip it. Many of the ones available online appear to be texture painted.

Mine is used as is, but I cover it during the day with an empty hacky sack to keep it from getting too hot in the sun.

It's not stupid to pay money for something you'll be touching every day.
I realize most of the guys on here "daily drivers" are fully gutted race prepped tubs with no anything, but some of us don't like driving around with pit stains looking like homeless bums and shifting a **** that's on fire or covered in some gay sock.

....just my .02

If there was a good quality weighed **** that was covered in leather or some material (plastidip doesn't do jack crap), I'd pay $100 for it.
Until then, the oem leather **** will work.

sorry for off topic rant op

I like my shift ***** heavy as ****.

Skunk2 or knockoff works great, except it gets hella hot. Buy an oven mitt.

plasti-dip on metal will wear off in a hurry if you go that route (just an FYI)

No, they are not leather covered, and no, they don't have a pointless shift pattern stamped into the top. But I defy anyone to tell the top one from a "real" type R **** selling for well north of $60. It cost me nothing but an evening of my time. They certainly aren't ghetto by any means.

I have also made some out of laminated wood (stays cool) and others out of aluminum, delrin and even corian.

It's not leather covered, so already it's not what I'm talking about.

I'm not saying it's a bad **** otherwise.
Also this:
but an evening of my time
not everyone considers their time worthless
