As much as I worked for the 245, I'm actually hoping we get the 225/45 first. It would be perfect for SuperMiata as our cars now sit with 140whp/2300#. The 245 would be fun at streets and maybe BW in hot weather but probably a bit too much tire for other tracks with our current power. That and we pretty much all have a set of 9's but the 245 really wants 10's and needs some hardy fender work to fit NA's.

We shall see..

The selfish side of me wants to see the 245's first but the business man in me acknowledges the 225 should come first. It would be great if they both hit at the same time. That would really bring brand awareness to the entire Miata crowd.

I hope they arrive sooner than late Q2. Having them early in the season would really help people switching over.

I'm personally looking forward to 225s, since my current build is roughly (closely?) following Emilio's 95R/SuperMiata formula.

I don't have any info one way or the other.

It's now June and I have just been informed that some dimensions have been approved for Road use in EU as well.

notice the little "E4"
The local distributor mentioned the 245/40-15 as "on the way" but with no ETA. He has seen no sign of the 225 yet.

Late Q2 sound like September to me, as I'm used to everything being at least one quarter late.

Maxxis RC1 Competition

^It's a swedish tire place that lists the 245/40 as in stock. Did you see this NiklasFalk? I wonder if it's just an error...

^ Now that's some dedicated snooping - scouring websites in foreign languages haha!

My fenders have been ready for a 10" wheel for two years.. but Hoosier budget wasn't in the cards. The 245 RC-1 makes things possible for me.. Cannot wait. Now I'm just wondering which will become available first - the 245 RC-1 or the 15x10 gen4 6UL?

First world problems.

Yes I've talked to Ralph, 245 was "on the way" and 225 is a bit further behind when i asked earlier in the summer.

If this is real or estimates based on information from Maxxis is another matter.
I'm not in the market for tires until next season and I have to get someone to make a real local test of Kumho vs Maxxis.
I'm not sure that a TW100 RC-1 must be faster than a TW50 V70A on the same dimension (which is the fastest currently), but the 225/45-15 will be the only competitive tire in that dimension. So I hope that I can test RC-1 on the 15x9" next year.
If things work out well I'll have to figure out if fender mods and 15x10" is worth it for testing 245.

A direct availability question sent.

Have you read the Andy Hollis review in GRM?

By the end of our outing, the Victra had displayed some promising characteristics. It delivers a typical R-comp's ability to multi-task during corner entry and exit. Mid-corner grip is similar to the best extreme-performance summer street tires, as is audible feedback. The tire looses performance if pushed too hard in warm weather, but it does recover when allowed to cool back down.
Given all this--and the fact that the tire exhibited very minimal wear--we see the Maxxis Victra RC-1 as a combination of the very best street-tire compound glued around a solid R-comp carcass. That's good news track day folks on a budget looking to hone their skills without breaking the bank --Andy Hollis
I've heard similar descriptions, a mismatched compound/carcas mix, making it difficult to get and keep heat without overheating.

But there can of course be dimension/car/weight combinations where they behave less strange (a 944 localy run 255 wide as rear rubber and they claim that they work). And being a cheaper play rubber in 245/40-15 for those who don't want to use the Hoosiers every time is always a plus.

I have not found a review of them on Miatas, and Andy used his CRX, but he mentioned "Setup info came from Emilio Cervantes ... the West Cost's SuperMiata series, where the Victra is a spec tire". Hmm, in the 205's then, how bad compared to 225 NT01?

I would much rather get the Hankook TD (Z221) in Miata sizes, which seems to last longer than anticipated for the ones using it for TA here (while being almost as fast as soft slick rubber).

On maxxis website, it shows 225 being available. Is this old news and I just missed it?

http://shop.maxxis.com/c/automotive_victra-rc-1

Anyone running a production set yet?

Thanks

Yea, last time I checked the 225 wasn't available on the drop down menu. I wonder when the 245 will show up

Bought a set of the 225s today. Will be interesting to compare to the R6s I ran all this year.
