Default NA8 Miata: Xidas + stock wheels?

I realize this is pretty retarded....
The short of it is that my 6ULs were stolen and I've got Laguna on the 23th. Luckily, I kept my stock 14s wrapped in S-drives and just popped those back on at the impound yard and drove off.

Am I asking for trouble by tracking my car? I haven't really pushed it since I got it back, mainly because I'm not sure how safe the handling is, so I guess I'm wondering is this configuration safe to drive in?

Specs:
Xidas + big grip kit
Front: 700 in/lbs
Rear: 400 in/lbs
Dual duty alignment

Thanks in advance for all advice.

So long as you drive according to the lost grip, and the tires aren't old you should be ok. Be aware though that a good setup for 200 TW tires will likely be more tail happy with the s drives and would be pushy with hoosiers, so your car may be looser than you are used to

While your suspension setup is ideal for softer compound tires your car with the s-drives will essentially roll less before it looses grip. This change may startle you and sometimes you will loose grip without even thinking you would. Just be mindful that your car is going to be less capable and your tires will have have pretty bad heat tolerances.
On 1000/500 rates big kit I went on the back roads to test for coolant leaks after a lot of motor work, with Ventus v2 concepts (500tw) it wasn't like I couldn't control the car, but it definitely gave me minimal feedback before things got slippery.
Just be mindful, take it easy and mind that the those tires wont like the heat.

Be prepared to adjust your sway bars. I'd just set the front bar to the stiffest setting, and be mindful of what the rear is doing. If you need to soften the rear bar between sessions, that's a far easier undertaking than the front would be.

I would definitely not set the front sway bar to the stiffest setting. Do you have stock sways lying around? Maybe put those on.

Either way, it'll be fine. Just use caution. Driver improvement opportunity with less grip, ha.

I'm rolling around on the stock 14s on my '94... with OEM size 185/60R14s.
Previously rode on 15x8s with 205/50/15 Hoosiers for NASA Time Trials, on 600/400 rate springs, big from RB bar, etc.

It's still fun, no issues.
I'd rock the S-drives at Laguna and have a blast.

I have 700/400 Xidas on my 1.6L NA w/ RB front tubular bar and rear OEM bar. I'm HPDE only, no TT or SM. On track, I run 200TW 205s on 7" wheels, but when I'm not on track, I run 195/60 Ohtsu FP0612s on 14x7" and I've run those on the track when its rainy (HELLLLLOOOOO Mid-Ohio). You'll be fine. It is different; less grip. You'll have to tweak your setup--maybe less damping and/or lower tire pressure in the rear, but it will still be a 100% enjoyable drive.

Thanks guys, appreciate all the advice! Had a great time at Laguna the other day and totally roasted and squared the S-drives. I didn't notice they being especially tail-happy (I'm slow and a *****), but definitely felt far less grip than before: usually I could go half-throttle in 4th for turn-5, but this time I had to brake hard and downshift to 3rd for the climb up the hill; also didn't feel the confidence to go flat-out through turn-6.

One thing I did notice was that the car 'felt' faster through the long straight -- I don't recall ever hitting the redline in 4th going into the hairpin, which is where I came in far too hot and locked up and squared the **** out of them, but somehow not going off.

I'm going to derail my own thread here and ask for replacement tire/wheel advice.
The options:
1. Wait for the next 6ULs and get RT660s in 14 to hold me over
2. Bite the bullet and just order whatever's cheap in 15x9 + tires for that
3. Keep the tires and roast them even more (while waiting for 6ULs)

Even with new wheels, I'll probably DD the car on 14s just to deter the thieves... so I'll have to replace the S-drives anyways, so maybe option #1 is the way to go.

Thoughts?

Narrower wheels are totally faster on straights (as long as you can put the power down), but wider ones will let you carry more speed to the next straight, so it's usually a balancing act of power vs grip.

6ULs are super nice and the OG, but I've also quite liked my Dekagrams. I would recommend against the Dial in or Storm S1 though. The protruding spokes are a pain in the *** to work around, and get scuffed easily.

The RT660s are my fav 200tw currently based on grip/price, so can't really go wrong there.
