My Flyin' Miata v-maxx review from track records to cruising with my gal
When I bought my first set of Flyin' Miata v-maxx classic coilovers I was impressed.I used those for autox , probably 50,000 daily miles, got a stack of FTD trophies and a Pro Solo trophy.
Fast forward to this season, I decided I needed something with a bit heavier spring rates. V-maxx had the xxtreme track pack. It was a dream come true, sold the classics, bought these.
Once installed they immediately went on track and drove me to and from the track.
8 hour drive in 1 day, girlfriend still smiling.
1st in TTE 5 of the 6 race weekends, all events were stacked with drivers, they had to cap TT registrations.
I set track records at 4 of the 6 tracks we attended. Unfortunately missed Lime Rock because of a blown water pump in the first session. Even still missed track record by 00:070!! And this last weekend the car was amazing but I was running my rain tires due to a tire puncture. Still beat the previous track record by a full second but was outgunned by a Hoosier wearing e36 who got my by 00:279 which I am happy with.
I have run these at full stiff since day 1. I have no idea how to set up suspension, my alignment is wacked out of control. All bushings have 185,000 miles on them. The car absolutely rips. If someone where to put Xidas, afco, penskes on my car would I notice, maybe? Honestly I had a budget to build the car. Going with these allowed me the ability to buy wheels, tires.
I am so glad I stuck to my guns on these. Zero issues with an entire season of HARD track miles street miles. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another set. What really sold me was the warranty. They are willing to stick behind their products, I had an issue with a clunk, I instantly thought it was the shock. I emailed Flyin' Miata and they talked me through the diagnosis process. It ended up being a lower ball joint. I am happy to the hills for these puppies.

I don't think the girlfriend smiling test is a good measurement of suspension. It's more of a measurement of your girlfriend
Mine was somehow smiling after 16 hours on budget bilsteins.

Let me know when all of the oil leaks out the adjusters.
They are definitely stand up about their warranty though. Great company. But I am on my second set and all the shocks have air in them again, I can hear it when I stand on the door bar and bounce up and down. For a budget friendly set of coilovers they worked well for me though, but I jump a lot of rumble strips and curbing. Also had one of them partially seize. I have also broken track records with them, some of which that had previously stood for years, but I would definitely consider these more aimed for a street car that might see an occasional track day, not a dedicated racecar.
