Default Car and driver tire comparison

Anyone see tire comparison in new issue of car and driver? Pretty interesting. A set of dunlop direzza came in first. Hancook V12 in second and Kumho XS 3rd.

My point to this was to inform everyone about how great the Kumho XS is. The best tire in comparison in dry weather, but it was absolute **** in wet conditions. Be careful if you have these at a track day and it rains.

They speculated that if they had the hancook RS3, that it would have been the first place tire.

Yes the street version from year ago (DZ101?) is crap. I think they tested the Star Spec.

Disappointing as always. Pretty obvious from how thin that mag has gotten the economy is kicking their teeth in. (R&T too) All "budget" tires and they passed up several tires that should have been tested. What'd they test, 5 or 6 tires? I can understand that at Grassroots but these are supposed to be the big boys.

Tire Rack Extreme Tire test Summer 2009:
Tires that were Tested:

Bridgestone RE-11
Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 STAR SPEC
Kumho ECSTA XS
Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08

We do this testing with 208 BMW 328i coupe's in the size 225/45R17 for all tires.

We rated Road manners (ride and noise comfort) in the following order.
1st. Bridgestone RE-11 , 2nd. Yokohama ADVAN AD08, 3rd. Dunlop STAR SPEC, 4th. Kumho ECSTA XS

DRY Track ratings:
1st. Yokohama ADVAN 2nd & 3rd were a tire with the Kumho and Dunlop followed by 4th with the Bridgestone. The amazing these is these tires are very close and all ran within 1/10 of a second on our autocross track.

WET Track ratings:
1st. Bridgestone RE-11, 2nd. Yokohama AD08, 3rd Dunlop Sar SPEC, 4th Kumho ECSTA XS. Again the top 3 were VERY close with the Kumho falling off some.

Overall we rated the tires in the following order overall rating:
1st. RE-11, 2nd. Yokohama AD08, 3rd. Dunlop Star spec, 4th. Kumho XS

The other point of note is the Bridgestone and the Dunlop felt to be a much easier tire to drive fast for the more Novice driver.

Now for some numbers:
Dry Track-Total Lap
Bridgestone RE-11 -29.12
Dunlop Z1 STAR SPEC-29.05
Kumho XS -29.05
Yokohama AD08 -28.91

WET Track-Total Lap
Bridgestone RE11 -30.36
Dunlop Z1 STAR SPEC-30.38
Kumho XS -31.29
Yokohama AD08 -30.37
