Bought a 2001 6 speed its missing this bolt and leaks badly. I got the transmission manual and it doesn't say a part number. I'm wondering what is the bolt for and why would someone remove it? What size/thread pitch is the bolt suppose to be?
Okay damn right near the end of the book. Maybe this is why the shifter is loosey goosey floppin around when ever I push the gas. Every gear works nicely but this thing feels sloppy compared to my old 5 speed. I'm gonna try a 12x1.25/1.5 flanged bolt in the smallest length I can find and will update later. From my point of view the hole looks super smooth with no threads hopefully not the case..
as continuation for anyone searching in the future....
the bolt that secures the selector-rod's bushing is M8(x1.25mm pitch) and 20mm long.
terrible iphon photo showing the bushing is threadded (& naturally turned so cannot refit the bolt to secure )
I'm stripping this box to rebuild so this is no issue
Rich.
So the hole itself is not suppose to be threaded but something inside is what the bolt threads into? The car seems to shift alright I've driven 50 miles with it likes this. Can I just plug the hole? I'm not entirely sure what this bolt is holding together.
THank you alot! i had a grind when i pushed the sifter to the right in 4th and 5th gear, and it felt overall sloppy.
Then i came across this thread and saw that i was too missing that bolt. I am somewhat ashamed i did not saw that before.
I hope that will solve my issue. i'll test drive it soon .
(I bought the transmission and just test drove it in my car to see how it is)
Did you have to take apart the transmission? I just stuck a silicon plug in and sealed it real well with the right stuff gasket maker. It's been fine for a few thousands of miles and I red line at least 5 times a day. I could never get a bolt to line up with the threads inside.
Its a tricky but not after you do it once. You have to slide that ring along the selector rod as you close the tailshaft and be able to align it to thread a bolt into it with a pick or something. Lots of on/off until you get the position right and dont nudge it with the housing as you put it on.
it can probably get stuck and/or slide along the selector rod as it runs without that bolt.
