Basic low boost build: Noob does it all wrong.

Getting there. The NB lower radiator hose makes it so I can actually fit everything. Also got to use my "new" vice for the first time. I am really liking this having my own garage thing.
Last things I need to figure out are the water line routing and the bracket for the oil line. It is close to, but not quite touching, the waste gate actuator arm.
The crush bent tube is going to finally go away as well. I have a new aluminum one to replace it. Just using it for mock up for now.

Right. Put the longer drain back on and got some of the high temp blue oil hose. Got all that attached to the turbo.

There is way too much **** trying to be in the same place as other **** over here. I see why he has come out with a V2 of the manifold (which just went up for pre-order today). The craftsmanship is superb, but the turbo is about 1" too low and everything hits everything else.

Big step today, got from the manifold through the upper downpipe bolted up and tight. All the lines are hooked up. Just need to button up the intake stuff and the exhaust and I can test it out.
Gonna do the IAC like this this time. We will see how it goes.
The free spectre filter finally died. I guess it's a good thing rather than risking it getting sucked up by the turbo? I ordered an AEM Dryflow to replace it.
Stealth front mount intercooler. No one ever spots it unless I point it out. Still need to paint the bumper from hitting the deer back in 2016...
Hot side piping largely stayed the same from the supercharger setup. Ditched the crush bent exhaust pipe in favor of some aluminum mandrel. That NB lower hose sure gives a crap ton more room down there to work with too.

New filter showed up today. Put that in and buttoned everything else up for the first start and took it out for a spin after getting the cooling system bled and everything.

Exhaust install was surprisingly easy. Bolted the downpipe up to the rest of the exhaust, pushed a jack stand under it and
It lined right up up to to slap the v-band on. This kit is wonderful.
Put fluids back in.
Started it and checked for leaks while the cooling system burped. I didn't find any (amazing!). Also, the manifold turned a nice blue and so did some of the nuts. I will get a picture of the new colors tomorrow. Had some light smoke at first but just turned out to be stuff baking off the manifold and turbine housing.
First drive went very well. Seems waste gate on this is going to be about 5 or 6psi. I didn't get up to it much since I was tuning and checking everything out. It makes very different noises now than it did with the supercharger. Need to do boost leak testing and such, make sure everything is good to go, but put about 10mi on it and it was fine. I do miss the whine and sharp blow off from the supercharger though. It made fun noises. This is much more subtle hissing and such.
Also, I was worried about boost threshold on this. But apparently that won't be a problem. In 4th I can make positive pressure starting at 1550rpm, and 3psi by 2000. And I am sure there are some boost leaks and I have a 2.5" downpipe into a 2" exhaust. I should have no problem getting to my goal of 4-5psi by 2500 since I am already doing 5psi by 2700.

Here are the colors things have settled on for now. Turbo studs are a golden straw color. the copper nuts have turned blueish grey. Manifold is slightly past bluish, getting onto straw and the turbo housing is very straw.
Assuming all this is fairly normal stuff. Also, yes. Just using a few layers of heavy duty aluminum foil until I make a heat shield. It makes a decent insulator if you crumple it and then put a few layers so they don't have much contact and trap air.

Knock on wood, no exhaust, oil, or water leaks. I have out about 50mi on it now and took it to work today for some tuning.
It has developed a lean spike between 2650rpm and 2900rpm or so at -10inhg (60ish kpa). I am a bit baffled by this since it runs 14.7 outside that, and 15.7 at that point. Of course, my map is set up for coloms at 2500 and 3k... Must be a resonance somewhere.
Also, it makes the worlds most solid.... 130kpa. Gonna have to visit my parents and borrow the compressor to test for leaks and WGA function. But the good news is, it makes boost far sooner than I had dared to hope, even with the 2" test pipe and exuast. I can hit the full 4.3psi by 2600-2700rpm and it makes pressure from 1650rpm up. 2.5psi by 2k. All I wabted below 3500 was enough to climb hills in 5th from 40mph. Supercharger did that well, turbo seems to do it just fine too.
I have noticed the turbo feels softer, but I haven't really flogged it above 4k yet. Just done pulls, so I don't know how it's response will be yet.

Those should all be sorted. I had the supercharger setup with no leaks up to 12psi. And past that it just leaked through the purge solinoid. (Will fix that later, but the supercharger never went past 11, so I just left it.) It really is amazing all the things that will suddenly start leaking though.

I had the supercharger up to 11psi and no issues. I will be boost leak testing up to 20psi or so since I plan to eventually run up to 13-15 eventually.
Yeah, we will find what the boost leak tester finds.
Current worry though is apparently the transmission has started to make noise. Sounds just like the supercharger (likely why I didn't notice). Directly related to engine RPM, only with the clutch engaged. If I disengage the clutch I can hear it spin down. Input shaft bearing?
One of the local yards has a 1990 with 80k on it and the trans listed for $225, so gonna pick that up as a spare anyway
