Presumably you will be running a undertray/splitter here so what do you have in mind for airflow to / from the cooler in this position?
We have a Rx7 style full width running up front, between that and the intercooler we have pretty much covered the Rad, so this postion might be better for us. I just dont see how you can get airflow to, or away from here ...but you are more cleverer than me
Race meeting for our new improved production series of 2 x 30 minutes races went well though, with temps being the most stable we've ever seen (first time with an oil cooler) 91-94 deg c water but I was hell sick so settled for 2nd and stayed on low (11psi) boost.So not exactly a full trial.
No. We build ours from scratch. Aeroquip -10 push on, Setrab cores.
Core sits just above undertray. Feed will be from above, exhausting out gap between core and undertray. First time we have done one this way. The smaller cores on lower power builds can fit under the headlight. For the potential 500whp this car might see, we needed a much larger core. That bigger 475hp rated 925 core didn't fit.. anywhere. So we went to a slightly smaller 350hp rated 150 core. Three basic options: In front of rad and potentially sacrifice coolant temps. Not acceptable. Locate away from nose of car, run much longer hoses and require all new inlet/ducting/exhaust. No time to engineer and fab that and I also didn't like the idea of having the core above the engine. Both for flow and CG reasons. That left sticking it down low. That allows short lines to block, low CG and no new inlets. The downside will be potentially weak airflow. We'll do M@LS next week with a rudimentary duct set up then go back in later to build something with more detailed control of airflow through the nose. If nothing works, we have to find a place to stick the 925 core and get air through it.
Thank you for the break down. Really appreciate it as that was pretty close to our thought chain as well. We did initially have it mounted high, above the IC but then worried about flow back to the sump when engine off etc so dropped it to below IC.

FRP fenders and doors made by a friend of ours. Prototype at this point. Fit not so great. When we get the fit dialed a bit more, we'll offer them for sale. Fronts clear 275/11.
Windshield still has the protective wrap. I like how the fenders are sneaky wide. Can't tell they're 2" wider.
Ive been running a huge PWR oil cooler stacked behind the radiator, directly against the rear of it where the AC fan lives. Good hoses solution, good space solution, no thermostat required, keeps oil cool on a 450whp track car.
BMW actually runs an oil cooler in the same location on the M4. They exit the air out the bottom through the undertray. Image is of an aftermarket guard but the OEM one is pretty much identical, just plastic.

Yup. On paper at least, the pressure differential is right for the job. I'm hoping it works with the 150 core on Vegas because fitting, feeding and exhausting the huge 925 core will be a PITA.
