True story, the first time on the dyno I was standing near the engine listening for knock. When it hit Vtec the first time I jumped. You can see the camera shake a bit. It's that abrupt. When they are tuned properly, as this one was, you don't really feel it driving though. It sounds sorta like the exhaust or intake suddenly splitting open. I coached each of the drivers their first time in it "when it hits Vtec you will think something just broke, but keep your foot in it".
Maybe the honda guys were right about dat vtech kickin' in.

Now the bad news. After my last run, I parked it, loaded it up, and attended the trophy presentation. I was going to drive home, but it would not start. I heard a knock from the engine while cranking.
That knock was the timing chain jumping off the exhaust cam.
I don't know yet if the valves are smashed, but the chain is loose. It appears the tensioner loosened up on start up. I still don't know the cause. I need to find a crank pulley tool that will allow me to break the crank bolt and get the ATI Dampener off.

Quick update. I replaced the chain and tensioner with another new OEM ones and it started and ran no problem. The new chain was even quieter, so I suspect the old tensioner was just too loose. I'll keep an eye on it.
I ran gridlife time attack but only ran half the sessions. The external oil pump pulley started walking back and forth on the shaft. The set screws on the pulley needed to be drilled out because they wouldn't budge. It was raining so I went home and brought back my SpecMiata.
