Another noob turbos his 1.6

Update time, its been a while...
FF640s are installed and so is the clutch and boost gauge, also got a vTPS for cheap and tossed that in.
Ive never done a clutch job before and managed it all by myself, so I'm pretty proud. That said, I hope I never have to do it again.
I've been tuning every chance I get, and I haven't come into many issues that I can't figure out. Mostly just random VE cells needing handmade adjustments and perfecting idle settings. Dicking around with flatshift and AE some as well.
My stock cat decided to puke out one hell of a hairball all over the road. A ghetto pipe took its place.
Other than that, I have almost everything I need for the turbo to go in. I've been waiting on a full 3" exhaust to be sent out by Kraken and once it arrives, assembly begins. Should I get gaskets for the turbine flanges or just sand the surfaces flat and cinch the bolts down?
In other news, upgraded the daily. 2011 SHO. Not sure what this "automatic transmission" feature is or why there's only two pedals...but the heated seats are awesome and its zippy.
Note: it was 70 degrees three days after this photo was taken. Michigan, for you.

It is in!
its still a work in progress, however. Coolant lines should be connected, but I may run without them for a bit. The wastegate will wired open until I can make provisions for mounting it, but also for tuning in case of boost creep. Intake piping is not completed because I ran out of 2" piping. The IACV is not plumbed in yet either. But the exhaust sounds fantastic (full 3" with magnaflow muffler) and no leaks spotted after a drive around the block. I definitely need to make heat shielding, heater core lines come VERY close to the downpipe. Also, is it normal for the turbo to not spin at idle? I rebuilt it prior and figured it just needed to break in a bit so I'm not concerned; but is that common?
The install process itself went almost perfectly. Getting a drill into the pan was a bear though (PS line had to be temporarily removed and there still wasnt much room to play with)
I dont think this makes me deserving of the "i has turbo" yet because I has no boost...but i do has turbo

Everything is buttoned up and I'm working on getting my VE table proper. As it sits, 7psi of boost; wastegate pressure.
I did this. it was a painful process and took 11 minutes.
Virtual dyno says 141 hp and 132 tq and I'm very much okay with it. Definitely an improvement over stock
Right now the setup is really thrown together and I clearly cut corners, but it will be improved over time and I feel like this is a fantastic starting point for the build overall.
Plans for the future:
- heat shield. I have some aluminum laying around. Or are turbo blankets still trendy?
-TORSEN SWAP - Until a torsen is in, I'm going to express some mechanical empathy and not turn things up
- boost controller after above. begin my quest to maxing out the turbo
- A/C PS delete is brewing in the back of my mind. My A/C never worked very well, so it's just taking up space and horses
- upgrade to 2.5" intake tract with above. and add a blowoff valve lol
- cooling system overhaul. reroute, koyo rad, new water pump, better fans etc
- roll bar - my mustang-owning friend keeps talking ****. I intend to show him up on the drag strip and safety is priority
- wheels + tires - Konig dekagrams are sexy and I'd need some proper rubber to match. Because grip and aesthetic
- sport brake conversion with above. I already have a set of calipers and brackets
- 1.8 swap some day down the road
tl;dr
I has turbo. it chooches. Car requires future improvement and monetary investment.

I got my hands on a 4.1 torsen swap and put that bad boy in. My vlsd was making me nervous. I was kind to it, but it needed to go in order to make way for more power and reliability. I regret not getting delrin bushings. That's a problem for future me to deal with, he probably deserves it anyhow.
After an impulse junkyard run this week, I came home with a set of toyota COP and LS2 coils. One to sell and one to install. I haven't decided which is which yet.
Currently saving up for a better radiator, as well as a wheel/tire/brake upgrade.

I guess i should take this opportunity to give an update on what i have/haven't done to the car. I moved my wideband to an A pillar pod that I also wired with oil and water temp gauges. I previously had a boost gauge in the third slot, but it was reading wrong and i wanted to reclaim my eyeball vent. In the process, the car's original tombstone died a horrible, brittle death. My radio fuse blew months ago so I just yanked the radio out in the process of replacing the tombstone. A bluetooth speaker sits in its place but I really want to cobble up a basic headunit-less sound system that i can hear with the top down.
I rebuilt my shifter using a 5x racing bronze bushing. I was hesitant because I've heard of them being too notchy. But holy smokes does it feel incredible. I still mess up 2-3 shifts at high load, but I'm not about to waste time and money upgrading my 1.6 mounts when a 1.8 is on my list for next year.
Right now I'm working on making a toggle switch panel to replace my radio for things like boost control, launch control, etc. As soon as goodwin has the right color/size wheels i want in stock, ill be ordering up wheels and tires and setting to work on upgrading to sport brakes. I also have a set of LS2 coils on standby. I've spent most of the summer tweaking my tune and trying to not seem like a monkey with a laptop. As well as scrounging for motivation since working 12 hour night shifts has sapped the life out of me and house hunting has sucked out all of my patience.
Tl;dr
ricer gauges and switches. Radio is kill. New wheels soon? Sport brakes. Coils. Bronze cup for my shtick. Lack of ambition. Also my gas mileage kinda sucks now.

my intercooler choice has been quoted. But take it with a grain of salt. When I inevitably replace it, I will buy a fab9 stage 1 intercooler and higher quality piping from siliconeintakes. This tiny intercooler doesnt do a good job, heatsoaks quick and for some reason is a complete bug magnet.
