Custom Gauge Cluster Harness
Has anyone ever come up with a connector to the gauge harness for a custom instrument cluster rather than splicing the connectors or removing from the connectors? Would be nice to have a connector I could plug in to give me a nice clean install. I'm replacing my whole gauge cluster, but want to retain turn signals, check engine, and other warning lights and rather than solder onto the harness I'd prefer a connector that I could pin out for the wires I need.
Basically a connector that plugs into the original harness that would give me flying leads. This way going back to my stock gauge is simply plug and play.

I plan to do something similar with a Rasperry Pi display after my Megasquirt install. I plan on just buying a spare dash harness and hacking that up so I can return to square 1 in case it doesn't work out like I think it will. Also, in case I ever want to put it back to stock. I'm planning on using a few weather pack type connectors to make the gauge cluster removable like the factory one is. Everything other than that will stay as factory with a few unused circuits removed while I have the harness apart. I'm planning to keep turn signals, and the high beam indicator. Maybe the brake indicator as well. The car does not have air bags, ABS, or AC so that should simplify a bit.

This seems like it wold be a great idea! I have to pour over some wiring diagrams tonight to see what I would be looking to delete and what would have to stay for basic functionality, so it may still be an extra harness for me and my piece of mind. I'll be watching for more info on the 3D print, though.

If I were in this situation, I would rather cut the connector off (leaving some length on the connectors to worth with), and then put a common connector on. If you think you'll need to revert back, then put the mating connector on the cut-off connector pigtail. If you do this, then the custom gauges would be wired directly to the common connector with no patch harness, then you'd have a patch harness if you needed to reinstall the stock cluster. In the case of making a female connector for the stock connector, you would have a patch harness when your custom gauges are in, and direct connection when reverting back to stock cluster. I'd rather have a direct connection with the custom gauges, and I also would be less likely to trust a custom connector setup for reliability.
