Even if I'm going from a 1.6 VLSD to an open 1.8? Also, everywhere I read says I need the axels from the 1.8. Does that mean I need the small stub that actually goes into the diff. The small part with the 4 bolts that bolts up to the axels or can I use the ones I have from the 1.6

You might as well get a diff that isn't welded, unless this is a drift car in which case I wouldn't replace it..... you'll probably wreck it before the diff explodes.
Yes you need a driveshaft and axles, there are both one piece and two peice axles, if you get two piece units you need the stub.
