I actually autoxed it today. It was in a tiny girly lot where I barely made it into the 60s and was down to 18mph at one point on my fastest run. Lame but good for a shakedown. Found out that the splitter doesnt fit in the morning. I need to trim the new radiator bracket. This baby wheel hops like a mother ****** again. I need to work on that. After the first launch it was banging pretty hard on the shift to second, I'll have to put it way up in the air and see if something broke. On my 8th run I lost power steering, forgot how hard it was to race without power steering, not the high effort but how hard the pavement imperfections rip on the wheel. I noticed I had no oil pressure after the finish and shut the car down, then I noticed I had half my other gauges not working, guess the fuse that powered the gauges and power steering relay popped or something. I'll figure that out later. Unless someone got faster after I left for the day I was 3rd fastest overall with no splitter, on wastegate boost, with no vvt. The 1st and 2nd fastest were karts.

Oh Yeah I had some pics too. When putting the engine back together I noticed exhaust cam journal 1 had a bad day. Meh, these engines are cheap.
I also mounted the LS coils. Many washers were required. Its only temporary, I'm sure mounting like this the bolt will eventually break or it'll break the valve cover. I'll mount them for real and get custom wires at a later date.

So I made the splitter fit, blocked the turbo speed sensor, used a piece of 1 1/2" coolant hose to make a pinion snubber because the pinion movement was causing the driveshaft u joint to hit the ppf adapter. Replaced the meter fuse so power steering and gauges work again.
I took the intake manifold off again to make the pcv block off less janky. But now the ECU doesn't power on. To increase the weirdness if the tps is plugged in it'll power on for 2 seconds, not long enough to fully prime the fuel pump. I confirmed the grounds are fine and the ECU is getting power. But much confusion.

Something might be overloading the fuse in the ecu. Drawing too much current or something. Its a self resetting fuse. Try and power the ecu on the bench. If you were grounding out 5vref that might do it.

So um the ecu case warped and it was full of water. Whats funny is that it started right up after sitting outside in the rain for a few days and drop right into the garage. I did notice that the backup battery was at only 2 volts I really doubt thats causing it to not boot. There was a bunch of corrosion in it, I tried to clean it off and cleaned with alcohol but I think its hooped. I'm going to call DIY first thing in the morning and see what they can do. Probably just end up rush shipping an ms3p evo so I can race sunday.

Yeah I just bought this house and work has the first shipment of a huge contract that week. I could probably still swing it, but then someone might protest the engine, maybe, and with how the rules are written it would really just be up to which one of us had more friends in the protest committee.

Clue me in on why engine wouldn't be to the rules? It doesn't make sense to me that you went to all this trouble to stuff an engine in there that wasn't to the rules?
BTW, I hate the word "legal" when talking about racing rules. If it were "illegal" you would be committing a crime and po-po comes knocking on your door. I guess come to think of it, getting rid of emissions controls on our cars is "illegal" but SCCA rules allow that. I'm babbling now...

So you are saying your Mazda engine has a Ford badge? Or you got a Ford engine which is just a Mazda engine that happens to have a Ford badge on it?
If the latter, you would be fudged by the rules if someone protested you. But it might raise awareness to a shortcoming of the rules in how they address corporate partnerships when two manufacturers share the same engine just with different badges.
Either way, what is your plan to avoid a possible protest? Just not come out to Nat's events?

Its a mazda engine with ford cast all over it. NC oil pan I ordered from mazdaspeed even has fomoco cast into it. My plan to avoid issue is to get the rules changed, but it looks like the SMAC dragged their *** this year so next year it wont be explicitly legal either. Everyone is pretty much in agreement that it should be legal but they cant figure out how to write the rules to say it is. The other issue with the certain interpretation of the rules is that if my swap isnt legal than a rotary swapped NC is also not legal but a coyote swapped one is.

It got rained on, but the pro unit it rated for a few minutes of full submersion so some rain splashing should have been fine. Out of warranty repair, it's more than a year old and it was probably my fault for putting it in the engine bay. I don't think the repair will take all that long since it actually worked for a bit while full of water. I'm guessing a couple of the components on the board just need to be replaced, one cap on the bottom had a lot of white corrosion around it and some 6 pin package on the bottom did too.
