Are you absolutely sure it's the bores? Seems you would have noticed if they were that bad with the head off. Might be worth putting air to a cylinder and making sure you don't hear whistling in the intake and exhaust.......wouldn't be the first time a shop had messed up a valve job.

I believe he noticed how bad they were when the head was off. Just crossed his fingers they weren't that bad.

Exactly that ^^^. They looked bad but not that bad. Head is brand new, no leakage there. I think Im going to do a marathon tear down and see how bad it is.. I dont really have the money for a new set of pistons, machine work and rings. I can swing the hone and rings pretty easy though. I told myself that if this motor ever turded out, that I would sell it all for a K swap. Now I am at that road, only with a brand new EFR set up and a built head. Two years ago I had gobs of cash to spend irrationally. Now I am a year into starting my own business and have basically zero dollars to waste and savings is in the extreme red zone. This build is a constant dilemma.

If the intake manifold was media-blasted with aluminum oxide and then run then yeah, it's trashed the bottom end. Probably not just the rings either.

AIUI, the aluminum oxide adheres to the aluminum of the manifold and then lets go slowly over time while the motor is running. Hopefully that manifold has been junked? Personally, I would probably treat every part of that engine that saw pressurized oil as contaminated.

Thats what I was afraid of. If it needs a complete rebuild, then I might me out of this game for a while. I definitely dont have enough to rebuild and replace it all. I torn here again. If i run it, I risk ruining lots of stuff.

brand new built vvt head- 600
brand new EFR 6258 complete hot and cold side- 2,500
lots of other bits to go along with it- 600

That gets me a stock VVT engine and some money to put back in the bank.

Don't run it, if there's aluminum oxide in the pump, oil passages, etc, it could easily trash the new head and turbo.

If the only part from the sandblasted motor is the bottom end, then I would pull it out, put a used/junkyard shortblock under it, and run low boost.

This. Stop the damage. Throw away that intake manifold, and put a stock healthy bottom end in the car car. Use your good parts with a stock motor, and DRIVE IT AND ENJOY IT. You can figure out something for all the boost down the road, just fix it and enjoy the boost and turbo for now. Drive it this summer and go from there. I have bought complete low mileage VVT engines for around 700-800 shipped on ebay before.

Decided to pull it. Tearing it down tomorrow and have a much better idea of the actual damage. In the end, rebuilding this, isn't a lot more than a drop in stock unit. I guess I could sell some stuff off a drop in...whatever, it's out.
. I even got my girlfriend to help me. She fooled me into thinking that she didn't hate it.

Update!
Machine shop says it's not that bad upond initial inspection. Thinks it just needs rings, a hone (3 full stokes) and a set of bearings because thays just cheap insurance.

Coy Miller Racing Engines is doing the work this time. I guess he was a big deal in the older Buch Nascar days. Shop is amazing. 800-2000 hp engines lined up by the dozens.

Now, who has a VVT valve cover and a 99+ manifold for sale?

I may have what you need.

I have a complete valve cover with all the junk on it sans solenoid (yes housing though). I also have an extra hardline from block, brand new never mounted. I do not have the 1/8" bspp banjo to block for it.
I have a square top, but the bottom half is purple. There's a throttle body somewhere, but without tps.

crap, i'm like offering just shy of anything useful for you. Sorry.

If interested, I'm relatively local, but for the moment I'm car-less.
