Scaxx builds an E46

Drove another 40 miles yesterday. Have about 75 on the car now. Took it on the freeway a bit yesterday and I tried driving it around like a normal human. It bucks pretty good at low speed but luckily it doesn't buck during 6th gear @ 60. Still have the throttle set at 70%, that was probably one of my better decisions I've made. The self-learn feature is really cool as well, it's really done a bit of changing to the base map. I still have some idle issues, it idles about 80% of the time but sometimes it comes down wrong and starts oscillating. I'm supposed to go to that drag day, but it's also supposed to rain, not really down for that. We'll see.
Had a mustang try to race me on the highway, but I just shook my head at him. Not worth it lol. Also had a guy ask me if I wanted to trade for his e46 m3
Overall the car is performing well so far, it ******* guzzles gas but it is what it is.

Did almost 50 miles today, it's got 120 miles on it now. I think it's got a small oil leak, I noticed a drop or two in the garage but I wasn't sure if it was from when I changed the oil or not. After the drive today I noticed a couple spots in the driveway as I was pushing it into the garage. So I must have a little leak somewhere. I really hope it's not something like a rear main, the t56 is the worst transmission I've ever dealt with as far as moving it around.
Actually made my normal commute today which is about 40 miles. Really just trying to get some miles on the car now, fuel efficiency wise it actually did pretty good cruising. The afr's are hovering around 14 so I think I can probably bump those up a little bit to get some more gas mileage out of it. But man it ******* chugs gas if you're on the throttle much. The car definitely has a better ride than my daily, there's a pretty nasty bump in the freeway that I hit everyday and when I braced for impact today I was greeted by a small bump that hardly even upset the car.
Took my mom out today as well, scared her a bit but she enjoyed it. I think she took some video when I did a pull through some of the gears, I'll try to post it later

Like you do a few miles of driving it hard and the gas gauge has very visibly gone down. It didn't move that much driving 40miles on the freeway so I'm guessing mid to low 20's freeway. I'll have to see how it does on the track, I'm guessing 5, maybe 6? I guess I'm just used to the stock miata haha
I was actually starting to wonder if I had a fuel leak somewhere until I drove it on the freeway today. Nope, it just chugs gas when you get on it haha
Edit: Oh and I think I found the leak, it looks like the same rocker cover but I think it's from one of the stupid little grommets this time haha

I think I'm getting in the low to mid 20's with an NA miata with MS3. I saw the tank drop by almost half in a 120 mile trip I took the other day. Need to fill up and monitor next time, but I was pretty shocked haha.

You're right, I'm slacking lol. I'll probably have a **** ton of questions one I really start digging in, I started doing more reading today.I'm not sure if the data logger isn't working correctly of what but it doesn't seem to be logging some of the values right, for instance, it says I've only done like 3000rpm which I know is bullshit. Not sure if that's half the value it's supposed to be or what but I need to do more investigating.
The main reason I haven't been digging into the tuning is because I finished my last day of school today. I thought it would be a little more dramatic though. I went in and we showed off our water/meth system and then went our separate ways, I'll post up pictures of the tank later. The aluminum welds came out pretty damn nice, if I do say so myself. I walk on Saturday. Been in school for the last 17 years, it feels weird to be done, actually, it doesn't feel weird at all. It feels completely normal, the thought of it seems weird though.

It's a holley hp efi so I don't have any of the hp tuners stuff, I'll do some more looking into it this week.
Seriously regretting choosing to walk, such a ******* shitshow to go all the way over to the main campus to walk, it's a 5-6 hour drive plus an hour and a half from where we're staying. And the ceremony's at 8am. Should have just stayed home and worked on the car, it's supposed to be nice weather this weekend.
Whatever, I should stop bitching, I'm done with school and I should be happy. The coolant overflow tank is most the way done, I think I may re-do it at some point cause it didn't turn out exactly how I wanted it but for now it should work and I can stop stealing other car's overflow tanks.

Is it running off a basemap or have you done much fiddling around with it? I'd be curious to see how aggressive the spark map is. I've heard the stock ECU's run the LS motors pretty lean, like in the 17:1 AFR range. I'm definitely excited to get mine running to tune for efficiency on Megasquirt. I did quite a bit of efficiency tuning with the BP, and was running 1.2-1.3 lambda at idle and cruise with E85, with very high spark advance. I never had my speedometer working right, so I never got mpg numbers, but I definitely plan to try to find the lean limits of the LS.

I haven't fiddled with it too much, it's pretty much a base tune, my buddy's buddy got it to idle by playing with the spark map a little.
Other than that I haven't messed with it much. It's running around 14:1 at cruise so I'm pretty sure I can bump that closer to 14.7. That was gonna be my first move. Holley has some resources that I started reading yesterday, really a noob to the whole tuning thing and it seems to have a pretty steep learning curve. But that was also my reasoning behind buying the ecu, I wanted to learn.
I can post screen shots of the spark and fuel map on Sunday if you guys want, suggestions are always welcome haha

stock LS ecu's target 14.7 AFR at cruise like would be expected.. lean burn would make NOX emissions go up and the government doesn't like that... but we are in offroad use only territory so
most of the gains I saw in my LS tuning (or even tuning in general) has been in the timing map. Heres an OEM LS3 spark map from HPT. HPT references airmass in g/cylinder though so the y-axis may not be as helpful to you.
Theres also room on the table left for fuel.. heres the factory power enrichment map.. stoich is 14.7 for gasoline from factory as expected.. I verified that as well.
