TS Connection issues

TS Connection issues
I recently picked up a used MS2E from another MSM for my MSM. I've got it all hooked up in the car and it powers on, fuel pump runs, (and fans come on). I cannot for the life of me get Tuner Studio to connect to the MS. I set up new projects, run through Rev's instructions for setup, all goes well, Comm port tests successfully during project setup. But TS says Not Connected.
The odd thing is, if I go to Project Properties or Update Firmware, TS is able to find the MS and read what firmware is on it. So there is some level of communication between TS and MS.
I also don't have access to the Communication Settings menu in TS
I'm using a serial cable to what I'm fairly certain is the recommended DIY ftdi Bluetooth adapter, which Curly sent with the MS. The BT adapter is plugged directly into the Windows 10 laptop. I originally let Windows install the driver, then I tried again with manually installing the driver linked from the DIY downloads page. Same result. I've been searching for answers here and on the MSEXTRA support forum to no avail. Found a few troubleshooting threads that I ran through and tried. I've even tried uninstalling Java, as someone somewhere said that worked for them. I've checked and corrected comm port baud rate and also tried the serial => USB cable that was working reliably for me with the Xede. I do have another serial cable I can also try.
I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling TS next. Anyone have any other suggestions?? Links to other connection troubleshooting guides? Until I can connect, the MS is a paperweight, and the car will sit in the barn. The tune on the MS is all wrong for my car, wrong injectors & who knows what else, like the full-time fans, so it won't start. I'm not terribly worried about sorting that stuff out, but this connection issue is REALLY frustrating!! Given the limited ability to connect to the MS, I'm reasonably confidant this is a TS/laptop configuration issue.
I have a shiny new set of GT500 640cc injectors sitting on the bench, along with Toyota coils, but I need to get the MS running before I add either of those into the mix and get on to proper tuning.
TIA for any help and suggestions!!

So with some troubleshooting assistance from a tuner, I've realized that Tuner Studio side firmware referenced in the instructions (3.3.2beta5), doesn't match up with the pre-3.3.2beta5 firmware on the MS2E.
Rev, can you help me out with either the correct TS side file, or a firmware upgrade for the MS2E, and an MSM basemap?

Is your MS2E bought from Curly here? https://www.miataturbo.net/miata-par...sm-ms2e-92086/
Ask him for help too.

Fuel pump runs properly for a few seconds.
Would the fans run because the AIT sensor in the car (stock MSM) is different than expected (GM)?
Can you send me the correct ini?

No, the fans only run when the engine is running and don't depend on IAT.

Don't reflash the firmware, just use the ini file in the zip folder.

No success with that ini file. Same result as before. No Connection showing across the TS dashboard. No Communications Settings or Data Rate menu.

And still, if I click Detect in Project settings, TS seems to find the Megasquirt

I just deleted and reinstalled the USB adapter & drivers. I'm going to try again. It is the FTDI adapter according to the drivers

The connection problem was a laptop issue, TS didn't like my Windows user name being "Temp". Tuner Studio support sorted me out there, I created a new Windows login and I can connect to the MS2E just fine now. Wasn't able to get my MSM running yet, but will try again on Monday AM. Irod is serving as my guru.
Rev, I'm trying to connect to the CAN board in the MS with the Enhanced_MS2_CAN106.ini that Curly sent me. Can you confirm the CAN Device settings in Project Properties for me? I'm getting this error message, I'm sure I either have a setting wrong, or perhaps the wrong CAN ini file?
I'd like to check the fan settings (because I don't want to think about a hardware problem in the MS yet!)

I figured that out and now have access to the CAN settings, including Fan controls. They look correct.
Got the car running, though it's idling at 2500+ RPM, and very rich, as well as showing 30+ degrees of advance. I still need to set the base timing with the MS. I'll do some reading on idle tuning and see what I can figure out on my own.
So Rev, is there anything I can do to troubleshoot the full-time fan running issue? Or am I going to need to send you the ECU for eval?
