Time for an update. I took the bov off and found that at some point the previous owner had dropped the turbo with the bov connected. This resulted in the cap being broken around the vacuum fitting. I got a new cap from turbosmart, but am still hearing the same sounds when I shift. I'm thinking I will go for a softer spring. It currently has a pink spring.
Now for the bad news... I started the car up last night and took it for a quick spin. I still haven't found why the car puked oil a couple of weeks ago. When I started the car it was running super lean at idle. I took it around the block to see if anything changed under load. Under load the car was running great. I pulled the car into the garage and decided to check the spark plugs. They all read super lean. I decided to do a compression test and the results were not good. C1-130 C2-105 C3-110 C4-125. Now I get to tear into the motor and see what is wrong. Unfortunately I won't have money to accomplish this until I start my new job and catch up on bills which will hopefully be in the next 2 months or so, which means this summer may be a loss for me.

It’s been a little bit since I’ve updated this. I pulled the built motor and put in a stock motor with head studs. I had it tuned to 300hp and have been driving it for the past year. Life got a little crazy with moving across the country. I shipped the car from Seattle to Tennessee. Last summer before MaTG I decided to pull the trigger on the Kmiata BMW zf 5speed kit and a getrag differential. I tried to get it all done in the week before MaTG and would have made it, but my exhaust didn’t fit. Bummer. I ended up driving my stock Miata to the meet. The next week I took the car to get an exhaust made and drove the car for the rest of summer. I only made it to 1 autocross.
Winter time came and the car did a lot of sitting. I turbo’d my NB Miata and had lots of fun driving that car. Once winter was over I took the car for a couple spins and 1 autocross. Then I got the opportunity to buy a LFX car. I couldn’t pass it up. I was going to drive the LFX car at the Kmiata Miata meetup, but the week before the event I developed a power steering fluid leak. I didn’t have time to get the parts to fix it, so I rushed to get the Murdermiata ready. I towed the car all the way to Michigan and took her out on track for the first time. First session on track I noticed my clutch slipping. When I pulled into the pits, I noticed my AFRs were really rich. Something was wrong. I got the clutch slipping issue figured out, but couldn’t figure out why I was running so rich. I’ve done a ton of testing and can’t figure out what’s going on.
This brings us to today. I’ve been trying to figure out what I want to do with this car. I got bit by the track bug, but I have fears about reliability with my current setup. I don’t want to get rid of the car because of sentimental value, but I think I went past the point of enjoyability with this build. I started parting out my turbo NB to clear some room in the garage and started thinking of what to do. After lots of thinking, a bunch of researching, and a couple ride alongs I’ve come up with the answer. K SWAP EVERYTHING!!!!
Today I placed my order. Kmiata ultimate swap kit, new fuel rail and FPR, NA valve cover, and a kpro. I found a k24a2 locally. The previous owner has already done the s series oil pump swap, 50* vtc, and a new tensioner. He also had the rsx wiring harness and charge harness I need. I’ll be picking it up next weekend. I plan to pull the motor and all turbo components off the car by the time all the k swap parts are here. I’ll sell all of those parts to fund the swap. Hopefully by the time the Kmiata care package shows up I’ll be ready to swap the oil pan, pickup tube, coolant reroute and valve cover on the motor. The. It’s just booting it all back together. I’m hoping to have the car ready for MaTG this year. I think it should be doable.
I’ll try to keep this thread updated with the progress. I’ll definitely be taking lots of pictures. If I get bad about posting here, you can follow along on Instagram. @murdermiata

It will be a grind! Shouldn’t be too bad though. My car is pretty bare bones, so there isn’t much to work around. I’m going to start tearing down the car tonight so by the time the parts come I’ll just have to put everything back.

The last photo of this car running under BP power. Tear down started yesterday. I’ll be posting some parts in the for sale section in the next couple of days. Can’t wait for packages to start showing up!

Motor is out. I’ll be selling everything off of it. Begi intake manifold, FM fuel rail, ID1000’s and harness, trackspeed COP kit, valve cover, and the motor itself. Still working on tear down, but I’m pretty close. I got the subframe yesterday, and the motor is being picked up Sunday. I also have my B series tps and some grams injectors on the way. Just need to find a starter and I should have all the parts I need.

Got the subframe installed. Was very happy that all the bolts went in with no issue. I’ve seen several people have to clearance a couple of the holes in the subframe. I’m waiting for my part collection to grow. I did receive my intake manifold and FPR today, and I also picked up the motor yesterday. I just need the Kmiata parts to arrive so I can really get the party started.
