New to Miatas, jumped in deep!
Hello all,
My name is Joe I live in Rochester, NY. Bought my first Miata Jan 1st. Was a bit of a project, I'll start a build thread. Quick story, wanted to build myself the fastest street tire auto-x car in my region. The can has lots of go fast goodies, but came largely unassembled. I'm almost ready to break in the new rebuilt turbo motor, but I've been hitting some problems. Looking forward to being here, and hopefully getting some insight from turbo people!
Day purchased.
Day organized. Never mind the German shepherd, she thinks you can't see her...

I just realized there isn't a build section.... so here's a link to my build thread on another forum. If this is a no-no mods please delete.

Welcome, I really like that little engine internals cubby thing you got, that's pretty neat.
You can start your own thread here, most of us won't click that link for fear of losing brain cells.

lol I appreciate all the offers but the car came as a build and go package mostly. It came with the full FM rebuild kit, turbo matched to the 1.6. I know 1.8 would be better but after looking at it, I'd have to basically sell everything and start over. It would of complicated the build significantly. Not that I couldn't but, I wanted this thing running by End of April for this season of solo and didn't see how I could make that work. I figured if something goes massively wrong I'll part it out and drop in an ecotec.
If I wanted to replicate/create a build thread on here where would you guys want me to put it?

And way to much of people giving stupid advice i.e. I make a post saying just installed a purple widget and post a pic, 4 post later someone says you need to get a purple widget or you're doing it wrong!

what turbo is this that's "matched" to the 1.6? I'm genuinely curious because 90% of turbo's out there really suck on the 1.6

When I bought the car the head had been machined and reassembled with new valves, springs etc. the block had been honed as well. The idea was that everything just needed to be assembled. After seeing the condition of the cylinders I decided to get it bored and added forged pistons for some extra insurance.

200 hp isn't going to get you to FTD on street tires. Certainly not with a 1.6 turbo. It just will not have the low end grunt needed. Having it running well enough to race by the end of the month will require hundreds of pounds of unicorn sprinkles.
Back up, read a bunch of build threads, reassess the end goals, proceed with caution.
Usually the ones who think we are a room full of dicks, are the ones who haphazardly buy projects without much knowledge or experience with a turbo miata.
what turbo kit does this thing have???
a 1.6 is a losing battle from minute 1.

Although I'm new to the forum so I get it. You don't know I built a Srt-4 that made 315whp on all stock parts or a 400whp STi with a 35r on stock bottom end.
You probably don't know I spent 2 years competing locally sizing up the competition. There are no turbo Miatas in the region that run a good wheel/suspension combo- most are running 205s. The fasted Miata is a CSP on 13s that make I think 150.
I picked up a oil return gasket this morning which will hopefully solve my last problem before break in.
And to get you up to speed here are some pictures:
