Tapping Noise on Rebuild

Tapping Noise on Rebuild
Looking for a little advice/pointers. Started getting a tapping noise on a fresh rebuild. Road tested a few 15 minute sessions, then all of a sudden....tapping.
Doesn't sound or appear to be in the bottom end. Pulled the motor, pulled the pan, all bearings look like ok.
Pulled the cams and the only thing that looks odd to me is the attached picture...y'all think that might cause a lifter-type tapping noise? The cam cap has similar scratching marks.
In case I haven't set my sig, this is a 2004 MazdaSpeed motor...recently built:
Manly rods, supertech forged pistons, and a bunch of other goodies. Head is all stock except for a valve job.
