Can anyone help me figure out why my car has the JDM/euro front fender amber markers? Besides the shitty head unit, I think everything else on this car is stock. Except these side markers...
They're these here, the bulbs are in them but they don't light up at all.
How do you remove these things, from inside?
LKQ cut the injector harness off flush with the manifold, guess I have to split it now. Nobody has a plenum gasket, can I reuse one for a week, because I'm gonna.

Sweet, was hoping I could reuse that gasket without much problem. I've got two gaskets, sure I can get at least one apart without messing it up.
Thanks for the tip Oscar, I see bulbs in the side markers now I just hope there's actually a harness on the things. I'd like to splice them into the running lights or turn signals, may as well make myself as visible as possible!
Also, found the cause of my squeaky driveshaft! Think I'll buy a grease needle and lube up my other CVs.
I hope I'm not gonna loose any transmission oil, I'll swap that out if and when my new MR shifter shows up. Sure would have been nice to have it here already...

Is there some trick to getting the lower bolt on the exhaust manifold collector? I popped the first two through the wheel well, but I don't think any amount of swivels or extensions will help me get the last one. I only broke the other two loose a degree or two to see if they turn, I've busted studs before pulling all but one last one, so it's not just pinched on there or anything.
I don't want to jack with the EGR tube if I don't have to, my plan now is pulling the driver's motor mounts and lowering the engine a bit so the subframe isn't so in the way. I haven't cheese'd the bolt yet, but I will if I keep trying these weird angles and swivels. Sure looks like they could have rotated the ******* collector 5 degrees counter clockwise, would have made all this irrelevant. Is it just me, or is a old NA about a hundred times easier to work on?
Besides that everything else is unhooked, all the coolant stuff, the slave got tucked up near the washer bottle, and the AC and PS pump are all zip tied aside.
I sure hope this **** goes back together faster than it comes apart...

The EGR nut is reusable? Looks like something that'd be really easy to break.
I guess these NB2 manifolds and EGR tubes sell for ~$200 on ebay, nice! Nearly half the cost of the engine right there, and I've got two sets to sell eventually.

I got the impossible collector bolt out, managed to get the downpipe bracket off the mid-pipe, and finished removing everything else. My harbor freight engine hoist isn't long enough, I have to remove the front bumper.
This ******* suuuuucks!

I have this one, old orange 1 ton. Think I might buy a longer arm for the next time around. Don't think I can safely extend what I've got with what I've got.
I wanted to pull the bumper so I could get at those ugly nasty rivets holding the front plate bracket on, guess that's happening sooner rather than later. Eh...

Yes I have the same exact one. The issue isn't so much being able to extend what's there, its that the load will then be at or past the front casters. Not that I haven't done it before with one of my dads cranes, but then a friend and I became temporarily attached at the rear as counterweights until the engine was on the ground. That was also an all iron V8 FWIW, so... and oh yea, we bent the bolt that goes through the ram and into the boom. We played with fire that day lol

Find a shop with a lift, got it.
This old orange harbor freight deal has served me well, many s10 and blazer engines swapped with this guy. Somehow, it still doesn't creep that bad either. It's a little champ for the $140 or so I paid for it, rather not wreck it too bad lol

Finally got the old one out, I seriously suck at this game. Engine mounts had to come off, no idea how to get the pins out of the slot and hole. Seems like it would take rocking the thing more than I have room for.
Swapped over a bunch of things to the new engine.
And, I think my car has a Euro/JDM front end swap. I have no idea why. Do American NB2's have "city lights" in the headlights? Because I have city lights in the headlights. There's JAPAN and EUROPE all over the back of the headlight, too.
I thought my cutoff were backwards, ************....
The front bumper side markers are not American domestic either, they are blanked out and have no place for a light bulb. The side marker light bulbs have been zip tied up with the fog light harness.
I cross threaded a lifting point on the new head, so I need a tap to clean it out. Once I do that, I think I can get it back together much faster. I'm certainly no 2hr engine swap miata pro yet...
Seriously, wdf? My luck is terrible.

Pilot bearing in the new clutch was locked up, so I had to move the old flywheel to the new engine. Probably should just put the old FM1 in, but I don't have it out yet and I need a car again.
The engine and transmission are back in, motor mounts are back on. Some stuff is hooked up again, should be completely done tomorrow afternoon.
The water pump on this new engine is extremely suspect, I think I'm gonna have to tear it down and do a timing belt job rather soon. Soon as in I just ordered all the ****, I hope it doesn't die on the drive home soon.
No rest for the weary lol
