MS1 v3.0 on a 1992 Miata
About a decade ago I bought and built a DIY MS1 with my old man, learned a lot about soldering. I was hoping to use it on my then KLZE Mazda 626, never happened :( Fast forward to today I have a 1992 Mazda Miata in pretty good shape, bone stock, manual steering, power nothing, no A/C, VLSD. I want to install the MS1 into the Miata, I know MS3 is better, I already have a MS1. Ultimate goal is AFM elimination, 3D printed intake, shaved head, header/exhaust as well as learning how to tune cars.
Honestly it all seems so daunting now but hoping somebody can help point me in the right direction. Reading the DIY autotune pages on Miata installation they talk about modifying the circuit board. Does anyone have a picture of what the final product should look like?
I'm also confused on how I should be wiring it, standalone or piggy back?
Since mine is a 1992 it doesn't really have a TPS. What are my options?
Any help would be appreciated, I am just a noob at this.

this shows only the components you need for MS1:
plus Joe Perez's improved spark output method, instead of the green lines/resistor on the diagram above.
I'd personally recommend you buy an MSII CPU and run standalone.
Here's REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY old documents that probably dont have all the best information:

I have an MS3 CPU and MS3X expander board you could use to make the gold-standard Miata standalone. LMK if interested
Don't build the MS1- do at least what Braineack said and make it an MS2. Standalone makes more sense than piggyback if you don't need the stock ECU for other reasons like emissions. There are a few threads on upgrading your TPS. It's not absolutely necessary, but really improves drive-ability.
Also: Install a WB O2 sensor.

I have finally got back around to working on my megasquirt as well, this is after a 6 year hiatus. Understand i have never been able to get this running in the car. I had trouble with the spark input signal, corrected the perceived problems with moving the spark input wire to the other side of the D1 jumper. The i went back and did all the repairs to the idle circuit. This included removing the R39 resistor and jumping the slot with a wire and i removed D8. I have yet to retest these repairs.
The secondary problem i was having is the software. I recently spoke with several local megasquirt guys and none of them have had much experience with the MS1 software. I have been told by just about everyone that upgrading to at least MS2 or the MS3/3X if i have the cash will solve my software issues. If upgrading to the MS2 or MS3 will solve my software issues then this is the obvious path to take. Then the only issues would be the hardware/mod's that need to be changed to work with the MS2 processor. Which i am working on finding a clear path to all the necessary modification required to make this work. I will start a new thread when i start making progress on the MS2 processor upgrade for a 1992 MS1 to MS2 3.0 upgrade.
