Raw polycarbonate is very soft so it scratches incredibly easily. Literally a paper towel rubbed across the surface with a bit of dust on it. Windex can ruin one. You have to wash them with dish soap and microfiber. That mechanical property is what makes them so desireable for windshields though. They don't shatter, they tear. I'd much rather have somebody's rod cap hit my $400 polycarbonate shield, ruin it and bounce off than through a $150 glass windshield and land in face with a glass chaser.
The 3D formed Racing Shield made units we offer are hard coated. You can run wipers on them, wash with windex and blue shop towels. We find the hard coated shields last roughly as long as OEM glass windows, 200-300hrs before the pitting becomes an issue. Glass windshield is 22lbs and $125-175 to replace. Polycarbonate is hard coated, 11 lbs $410.
It's easier to get a rear raw poly shield to last than a front. Also easier to bend 1/8" to the shape of the top. Getting a 3/16" flat shield to the windshield frame will be difficult. We have made one or two rears over the years but it ends up being more practical to just splurge on one hard coated rear that will last forever.

Did my first PTE race and took 2nd out of 5 in class, so was pretty stoked about that. Qualified 2nd on RC1's, 1st place gut was only a half second faster on r7's.
Race came and I had Arca_Ex as my spotter and did a damn good job for me. 1st place guy destroyed me so Aaron kept my focus on staying in 2nd and I managed a 7 second lead at one point. He also reset the TTE record by 1.5 seconds.
Race was way better than TT and I felt more calm haha. Now I need better tires

I had a pretty productive day in the garage today though! Pulled off the Racing Beat & Mazdaspeed sways, and the 949 end links. Switched the 800lb fronts for 1000s and installed some fresh Mevotech cheapo OE style end links.
Currently:
TTE* +7
Xida +5
Sport brakes +2
SM6 +1
If I have time, I'll try to get the 4.7 Giken in before Mid O.
Goal still remains R7s and points engine before second mid o event.

Had fun this weekend at Roebling. Some SM guys were running TTD this event, so that was a fun experiment for me

Nice! I acquired some OE sways and 1000lb springs myself. Though, I need several other items before I can justify swapping them.... more safety stuff, clutch, a ECU, etc.
Dan, will you be double dipping in TT at all later in the season?

Awesome dude! I got approved for my provisional and I'll be doing my first PT race later this month. Looking forward to it.

Yes, they were in full SM trim, ran Lighting sessions as well. They were actually nice enough to run in TTD, even though their cars technically fit into TTE. Blake told me there was a grey area on the cage attachment points or something, so he just ran D.

Was able to get another TTE record last weekend at a NASA AZ event. 5 cars in class. Broke it by 1.5 seconds and I feel like I left at least a second on the table in my fast lap. The last time I drove this track was like 2 years ago. I either cracked a rotor or got down to metal on one of the pads during this session so I only got two tries and was done for the day. Didn't feel like working on the car in the sun. Also avoided a Corvette and added bonus footage of me offroading in the earlier session.
Also got to be spotter for Jay (jspeed6) in his first PTE race that he mentioned above. Also 5 cars in that class with only one car doing both PT and TT. Maybe I should apply for my provisional...
Car feels great. Xidas are awesome. Delrin bushings are awesome. E85 is awesome. Doing the best I can with an NA chassis on a TTE* dyno reclass.
