Default MX-5 from the Netherlands

Hello everyone, I'm Jay and I live in the Netherlands. I have a 1991 MX-5 that I'm planning on DIY turbo'ing in the near future. Right now it's dyno'd at 102 hp at the wheels with a cobalt cat-back exhaust and a cat delete. (the dyno is known to read lower than actual figures so it could be more, not a noticeable difference though) I'm pretty sure my engine is quite healthy, despite the 250k KM on the odometer (about 150K miles)

I'll be doing the turbo build in small steps, as I'm a full time university student (Automotive Engineering) and I'm spending most my Saturdays working as a Car Detailer to earn a little bit of money. My first step (after getting my DIYPNP working) is to get a 'basic' turbo setup for about 150whp. That way I'll be able to save up some money for some extra parts. I think I'll be happy with that power level, but I already know I'm going to want more. I just want my title for the fastest car in my class back so I need to be able to chop my friend her Abarth 500 :P

I don't know a lot about the turbo subject, but I'm eager to learn. I'm hoping some people are willing to help me whenever I need it. I'm mostly wanting to gain experience with custom fabrication so I'll be trying to make as many parts myself as I possibly can.

Some other plans for my car are:
- Getting some BBS RZ's (already reserved them :P)
- A bit more low when my suspension stops dropping
- Maybe a ducktail spoiler but I'm not sure about that yet.
- Probably more but I can't come up with them atm.

Sorry if the picture is as big as the car itself, I have no idea how to resize it

Welcome to the forum. We have several members from the Netherlands here, and many engineers.

Hi there!
I am also from the Netherlands.
I see the car is a 1.6; do you considering to drop in a 1.8?
The 1.8 makes a much better base than the 1.6, although for moderate builds (less than 220 hp) the 1.6 could do as well. Spending any serious money on a 1.6 is generally a waste in my opinion.

For now, no, I don't nearly have enough money and/or workspace to engine swap it. I might in the future get a 1.8 MX-5 alongside this one or I'll get another one and engine swap that. When I graduate and get a job that pays better than mine does now I'll consider doing that.
