I'm prepping my Exocet for time attack and having some steel on aluminum rubbing issues. When the car was built, the hood pins were mounted to steel mounts that are rubbing against the aluminum radiator. No bueno.
You can see the steel is rubbing through the aluminum. I figured I would ask the racing guys here as you all probably know of a better fix than I can think up. I was considering having a buddy put some aluminum beads on the rub spots, but that isn't a long term solution. Can you guys think of anything I can put between the two to mitigate the issue? I tried a piece of rubber hose, but getting it to stay in place was not working.
I think it is adding some structural support to the hood pins. Might just need to fabricate new hood pin supports to be thicker and stiffer so they don't need to touch the radiator. I'll try trimming them down though and see what happens. Thanks!
Yeah, cut that pointy end off, it's not doing anything for you.If it's still close after that maybe you can space your radiator a bit further away with some washers, or get some plastic edge guard from someplace like McMasterCarr and put that over the edge of the steel part.
Chopped the pointy end off and now the support is rubbing lower down on the radiator. I'm just going to have a buddy fab up some new brackets in steel that clear the radiator completely.
