Buzzer Recommendation(s)
In lieu of warning lights, many have suggested the use of a "buzzer".
Anyone have a P/N, either panel mounted or base mounted, that has proven useful?
I'm thinking oil pressure. Buzzer would be in parallel with the fake oil pressure gauge of my '99, with also a switch that allows it to sound only when "armed".

I also have realized that the switch is NO, Duh. So I would need Light or Buzzer to come on when switch opens, thus some more logic is required to do either. I'm out of I/O's on my MS3, or else I could use it to drive the thing.

5-pin relay? When the oil pressure switch is open, the buzzer and warning light send power through pin 87a. Feed the power from the fuel pump wire so it's only active when the engine is running.

I run this in the boat. Separate from the gauge for redundancy.
It's very noticeable.

No no, hook it up to the horn to warn others to get out of the way of flying engine bits.
Seriously I would do some ultra bright LEDs. I'm going to replace the factory oil and coolant guages with yellow and red LEDss, about 5 of each and drive them with the MS3x, yellow when it gets close to bad and red for shut it down .

I did this and used the loudest small buzzer Jaycar (Aussie electronics store) recommended.
I didn't hear the buzzer at the store but was assured that it was very loud and that I'd definitely be able to hear it when the engine was revving way beyond its point of destruction.
I installed the buzzer with my PLX Devices oil+water pressure module.
As soon as I turned the key with the car was parked in my garage, there was an almighty violent-death-scream that scared the bajesus out of me and I quickly turned the key OFF.
With the engine not running, there was no oil pressure so the PLX module was activating the warning module (in my case the buzzer/violent-death-screamer).
ie. Use an LED for an oil pressure warning, you don't want the buzzer screaming every time you turn the car on.

I decided to go through with the LED approach. I will post pictures. Single LED that was so bright I still had to put in an additional 600 ohm resistor.
Anyway, went through the effort to wire in a relay, only to find that the switch is NC and that it indeed opens when there is oil pressure. So, in the end, the job is not so hard.
I drilled out the gauge to receive the LED. Painted the back of the gauge background so the oil symbol shows but not the gauge marks.
Windings and shaft removed, not drilled out yet. I filled the cavity and glued the 2 bobbin halves back together with Ultem Hot Melt, before drilling.
Where I put the un-needed relay
Oil Pressure Present
No Oil Pressure Present
Note: Using factory oil pressure sending unit (7psi) that has been re-positioned to one of the ports on the back of the head. So this is the pressure after the block-to-head restrictor. Light goes off in about 1 second of start.

Human senses are better at detecting changes when you are focused on other tasks. This is true for vision and sound. A constant "on" light may go unnoticed, same with constant-frequency sounds. You want a blinking light or a sound that changes frequency (pitch) at 4-6 times per second. That will grab your attention.
