My eventual plan is to end up with a decent SSM miata. It's going to take me a long time though. I think next year will be street prepared. After handling the turbo, I wiped down all the machined flanges with light oil, covered them in a bunch of layers of painters tape and put it away. I ordered one of the treadstone flanged -an adapters and -an caps for the oil inlet and outlet. I guess I'll just fill the turbo with oil, and seal it up for awhile. I'll probably plug the water fittings too.

I'm pretty sure my jaw was on the floor the whole time I was checking out the turbo yesterday. I'm debating whether or not I want to pull the turbine housing and send it to swaintech for coating. I'll probably just wait for the manifold and dp to send too.

I've sold 3071's with tial's compact compressor cover that were physically quite tiny.

It looks sexy. Are those your new M8 inconel studs? Will they be the same price as the old M10 ones. Just trying to plan how much more money I have to have ready to send to you.

Those are M8 studs, yes. Not production, just some protos I have laying around. Production studs will be a little different dimensionally. Pricing will be similar to the M10 stuff.

More on downpipes next week.

Just wondering, are the walls thick enough to tap for individual egt probes (1/8npt)? Or, would you recommend welding on bungs? I love datalogging and have an Innovate TC-4 sitting around. If you think the holes will cause problems down the road, then I'll forget about it.

Walls are ~8mm thick in most places. Plenty of meat to tap for 1/8npt probe fittings.

That really is a beautiful design.

I've been bemoaning for years the fact that nobody has ever designed a cast manifold for the Miata which approximates the internal geometry of a good-quality welded tubular manifold. Yours is the closest I've yet seen to that ideal.

Any good internal shots of the merge (looking straight in through the turbine flange)?

Thank you. That's what I was going for when it was initially designed - I wanted the performance of a welded tubular manifold and the reliability of a cast manifold, and this is pretty much exactly what I had in mind. To get something swoopier and more exotic than this requires moving to investment castings and multi-part tools, and the price goes up. If you want to stick to a simple two-part shell mold with four simple cores, this is about as good as it gets, IMO.

Not handy, but I do have something that you might like better. This is from the initial CAD, and the lines run along the center of each runner to show the blendpoint. I think the merge point worked out OK :party:

Downpipe prototype, so you guys can get an idea of the bend radiuses. 3" mandrel, all bends are 3" CLR. Production parts will likely be 16ga 304SS. There are no slipjoints in the prototype and it installs easily from the bottom, so we won't be forced to slipjoint it for installation. We will likely still do a slipjoint on the back for various stock exhaust options (94-97, 99-05, or 3" options).

Not a production part, but a representative prototype. Details may change (weld locations, bracing, slipjoints, etc).
