Did you keep one for yourself to test?

Just unboxed mine. Looks nice. Got the 6258 with aluminum center section. Only thing that seems odd is the oil return looks like the machined flat spot for the flange is machined down to the point that there are basically no threads on one side and maybe 2 on the other if you used a 3/8 npt fitting which I thought you were supposed to be able to do (ie flange or fitting). Way it is, it looks like I'll need a bolt on flange w/gasket instead of just a threaded fitting or I'm afraid it will weep oil. Anyone else's look like that?
Been on here for several years but this is my first post!! Pretty excited to get going on this EFR install this winter. |
On my old iron housing there is hardly any NPT threads as well. It seals with liquid teflon sealant. If I had the room I would prefer to use a flanged connection on this thing.
|
Well that makes me feel better. Wasn't sure if I should try and ask Borg Warner about it. Once we get our manifolds have to see if there is room for a flange. Noticed Treadstone and others list several different style flange fittings for the EFR's.
Hoping to hear about a group buy for down pipes!!! I'd vote for V-band lower clamp also but I guess you could always cut the normal style flange off and weld on whatever you wanted. Either that or maybe a "no lower flange" option. |
I like the sound of having a v-band lower clamp as well. If you are going to have an exhaust made, you might as well go full v-band.
I too will be interested in a group buy for the down pipes, if there is going to be one. |
I'm going to be prototyping the downpipe next week. I should be able to offer an option to bolt up to a 94-97 or 99-05 flange locations, as well as an option for a straight 3" dump for those who are building custom 3" systems.
|
Definitely in when you get a down pipe available. I think a V-band option would go over well. Hopefully the first group buy people get a shot at fist dibs. Like stoves said, if your going to have an exhaust built I'd go V band if its all the same.

We won't test the manifold beyond what the 6258 is capable of, no. I have a tenative plan to offer a 500whp-capable EFR7064 kit, but that will be a no A/C, no P/S kit with a price tag closer to $10k, and that's only if the 6258 kits sell well.
|
Plans for the 7064 kit were scrapped years ago. The EFR7163 will do 500whp and will bolt up to our manifold, but I have yet to come across an individual foolish enough to try it :) For the vast majority of people (80%), the 6258 is perfect, and for 19 out of the other 20%, the EFR6758 is perfect.

I thought I'd regret not stepping it up to the 6758...nope, I don't even want to think about having a larger turbo than the 6258. 356 hp with a conservative tune....I tip my hat to those that go bigger. I wouldn't have the balls to drive it with much more power than its current state.

I just got my efr 6758 in the mail today. Wow is it awesome. Did I somehow get an investment cast housing? The finish on it is unbelievable. I looked at the shell mild pics a few pages back, but those look really rough in comparison.

They are still sending out a blend of investment and shell mold housings.

The EFR is making a nice paper weight on my desk today. This thing is huge, especially compared to my v-band one. I will get some comparison pics tonight.

Lars, did you go with a 62 or 6758? Even the birds of your wallpaper can't help but appreciate the glory sitting before them.
Stoves, team 6758 represent! These things are a mechanical work of art IMO. I'm itching to put it all together. That polished t25 flange is some seriously sexy stuff. And these turbos are LIGHT compared to my 2560, it was surprising just how much of a difference it really came out to. I'll be in for a downpipe as well, though I'll have to modify it for a slip-on fitting. I know you mentioned it already Sav but I'm definitely going to order some FM-style solid water lines if you end up fabbing them. |
