Default NC turbo kit miata.net

Hey guys,

Now that I got a NC I've been spending more time over at miata.net, more old guys with NC's there.

Theres a new turbo kit built by a member there thats about to hit the market, and I have some concerns with it that I wanted ask you smart people about, since nobody over there seems to understand my concerns.

Overall, the kit is well thought out, and improves on the Begi kit in several areas, but the fabrication is just downright dreadful to me. I don't think Absurdflow, Artech, Trackspeed, or myself would ever let this level of work be introduced to the world as our own. I'll post up pictures of what I mean and the link to the whole thread.

Pics of manifold and downpipe:

They look like crappy welds, but I am not really someone qualified to judge welds.

Winner. Sorry I just can't get over it, I think that it's very tacky (hehehe) and the incorrect way to bulletproof a mani-turbo connection.

I hope they do not ship them like that. If the turbo is tack welded to the manifold, they are ******* idiots.

The fact that 4 is pointing up into 3 makes me cringe.

The claim is that "Manifolds are made by someone who makes bulletproof 1000hp honda setups and he insisted on bulletproofing them that way".

Manifolds are shipped with the turbo welded and bolted together like that, as a drop in package. I like that, except for the WELDS.

Runners 1 & 4 are angled pretty bad, though a tad better in the smaller picture.

The first bend off of the downpipe is a horrible cheater bend, and the weld right above the o2 sensor looks like crap.

Jeasus there is alot of fail in the pics. I haven't made it to the the thread yet but wow.

Turbo welded to the mani? WTF?

Also looks to be crazy hard to bolt that thing up, having all the runners block the lower bolts. Just wow...

Ok, on to the thread for more laughs.

My god, have these guys never seen decent welds? Is it that hard to make a decent collector? Granted, what I know about fluid dynamics and manifold design could barely fill a shotglass, but christ, even with a LITTLE bit of tweaking to the #2 runner the BEGi one looks like it would still flow better than this thing. At least BEGi tried with the flange transition.

Is this website really scary enough that people are not even willing to come here to try to learn?

Yeah his english does suck but I believe he is foreign. It is appalling though that he has spelled Corky "Korky" multiple times...

I can't wait to make my mani next summer to show him and the miata.net crowd what is actually possible in the small amount of space there is.
