Go rent the movie Tron. That was one of the supporting characters (and for reference, the very first all-CGI character in a Hollywood film with a speaking part.)
Well, I think part of it is that we're cheap bastards with small penises who like to build **** ourselves to make us feel like real men. (Of course, I spent $135 on a TurboXS while going nuts chasing a boost-control problem that turned out not to be related to the MBC, but I digress.)
In another, very real sense however, I'm not sure that an EBC offers any real advantages over an MBC.
With an MBC, you have one ****. You turn it one way, and boost goes up. You turn it the other, and boost goes down. As Ron Popeil would say, you just set it and forget it.
EBCs, on the other hand, seem to be finicky creatures. They have lots of different fiddly little adjustments that attempt to emulate the performance of an MBC, but never quite seem to get there.
To compensate, they tout lots of bells and whistles, like switchable boost setpoints and such. But beyond FnF, does anybody actually care about such things? You've already got a variable boost controller under your right foot.
That's pretty much it. EBCs cost more and add greater complexity, and I'm not sure that they offer anything useful in return.
And why an MBC? I think I'm seeing a preference to MBC's over EBC's on this forum, and if so, I'd like to know why.
