Default Bearing housing wear??

If I have a greddy turbo with a very worn shaft and bearings (have a couple of scores in them and loads of side to side play) Is it posible for the bearings to wear the machined housing as I assume its Iron like the rest of the housing? surely the brass bearings would soak up any damage?

The classic sleeve bearing turbo has loads of side play. If you can push the compressor sideways to touch the inside of the housing, it is worn out. If you can't and it doesn't smoke, it is okay.

That "loads of side play" comes from four oil films in the sleeve bearing turbo.

Thanks so it would just be a case for a full rebuild and bolt it back on?

If the compressor wheel can touch the housing with finger force applied to the shaft, yes, it needs an OH.

If it is smoking and all engine aspects check out, then it needs an OH.

If neither of these exist, run it.
