I have a bone stock 92 1.6 including exhaust. I’ve have my ms2 in the closet for 3 years. 👀 trying to save for a tune but life happens and funds disappear. I know all Miata’s are different but I’m looking for a solid and drivable msq to load. I have the auto tune feature in tuner studio but don’t know how to use it. Thanks.

Put in the work to learn to tune it yourself or pay someone to tune it.

Those are your options. There are no shortcuts.

Go here (MegaSquirtPNP by DIYAutoTune.com) download a stock 1.6 base map. Hopefully, that'll get you past Step 1. Then you can begin your journey to infinity and beyond.

Spend $50 and sign up for a month at https://evansperformanceacademy.vhx.tv/. After watching all Evan's videos you should be able to tune.

There's plenty of resources online about how to tune these units. Pedxing and andy whittle are my favorites and their explainations really helped me improve my own car to turnkey status.
Tuning is a lot like welding, its worth investing into learning to do it yourself so you don't have to entirely rely on others to do it for you when you need it done.

I'm curious since this is the first I've heard of this specific 'school'. I self taught some tuning from trial/error and YouTube but would love to make sure I'm safely maxing power since I was pretty conservative on my last tune. I made 234 on a 1.6 c30-74 rotrex car on a street tune, do you think it would be worth the membership to polish up my tuning skills?

sorry for the thread drift.

rwyatt already sent you the link. I couldn't really make you a 'better' basemap since that one is already set up as a good starting point

do you have the means to rebuild the blown up engine that some random map might result in?
do you realize that even a SAFE map on someone else's car might be extremely dangerous on yours because numerous things have to actually work right for it to be safe that have nothing to do with the map itself?
I could go on, but I hope you get it. And if you don't, please by all means proceed. Just do us a favor and post the carnage pics afterwards

Yeah. A BASE map is just that - a base starting point, generally intended to get your car to start and not much more. There's a rough approximation of fueling and ignition and maybe enough to keep your car idling for more than 30 seconds. Beyond that, it's all up to you. There are too many difference between cars (even cars that - on the surface - seem identical) to take any generic tune and expect to have thousands of mile of trouble-free running.

As others have said time and time again, YOU have to put in the effort to take that base map and make it fit your engine. It's an uphill journey (sometimes steeply uphill) but a rewarding one if you end up with a car that runs to your liking. A base map plus TunerStudio and VEAL will be your first friend, But it doesn't stop there; you'll have spark and idle settings to tune, accelerator enrichments, cold/warm starts and EGO control (assuming that you have a WBO2 sensor). There are so many things that can wreck/enhance the drivability of your car - and so many more that can result in tears - that it's be impossible to create a generic map that'll satisfy everyone's needs.

You'll have to work for it.

It is worth every penny. Besides videos about MS, Evan has about every other tuning platform out there. So if you want to branch out it is an awesome place to learn from.
