DB37 is for non-standard inputs and outputs. Launch control, switchable tables, wideband in, CAN bus, etc.
Why a DB style and not a circular? It all comes down to cost and time. Any circular connector that is made for a PCB costs $$$. Like $120 for the PCB connector (header) and then ~$50 for the plug itself. Too much money for the Basic MS3, maybe ok for the Enhanced. I could use a standard circular flange-style receptacle and then wire each and every wire from the receptacle to the PCB...not.
