Absolutely. I've been very impressed with how adding this much power didn't really disrupt the feel of the car. Obviously, there's power this turbo will make that we left on the table. I'm running a 1.6 ACT clutch and stock rods, so this seemed like a reasonable place to stop.
edit: Well I bought this ball bearing one just now. From the description is says ball bearings are only on the compressor side and based on pictures the exhaust side looks the same as the standard MKTurbo one. If not I will return it and get the one recommended.
This turbo came and I installed it today. It fits with the MKTurbo kit just fine but it's too big for a Miata, well at least too big for my motor. Spool is crazy slow, doesn't build hardly any boost until well over 5500rpm. Check log attached and photos.
I am formally introducing the MK Turbo T3 budget base turbo setup. 3 years ago I started selling DIY setups that included a manifold, t3 turbo, down pipe and a full 3" exhaust for $1500 shipped. That has been going well, but I always kept getting asked what else do I need besides your hardware. I would give my answer to that by saying you need an intercooler setup, oil lines, ecu, injectors, a wideband, and miscellaneous other bits and pieces. So I have finally decided to do something about that. I am now offering 2 more levels of budget setups, the first is with an intercooler setup. The second is a full setup that includes the standard diy setup, the intercooler, and now adds a MSPNP-Pro, FlowForce EV14 Injectors, Wideband O2 sensor, intake, and oil line setup. This is just about everything you need to max out a stock motor all with one purchase.
To celebrate Independence Day I having a July sale for all my turbo setups for the first 10 people to purchase. Normal price shipped on the DIY setup is $1500, for the sale they are $1400 shipped. The itnercooled setup will normally be $2000 shipped, for the sale it is $1900. The full MKTurbo setup will normally be $3750 shipped, since 1776 was such a great year, the sale price is double that at $3552 shipped.
The DIY setup is based around giving you a good starting hardware platform that will get you to just about maxing out your stock motor safely. You get a t3 log manifold, a t3 China turbo charger, 2.5" to 3" downpipe, full 3" exhaust with a giant magnaflow muffler. It is the best sounding and quietest exhaust on the market. Every connection point in the exhaust uses v-band clamps which makes assembly quick, easy, and painless. No more having to get gaskets and mess around with RTV. You can add in a high flow catalytic converter or the oil line setup for an additional charge.
The intercooled setup includes everything in the DIY setup along with everything you need to add an itnercooler. The IC set is PS/AC compatible. It includes an 18"x18" bar and plate intercooler, all polished aluminum intercooler piping, a bung for your IAT sensor, anda BOV. Everything you need to go from the turbo outlet, to the throttle body.
You may have to move your cruise control on certain models, one power steering hose needs to be moved around, and you may have to relocate your windshield washer bottle if it is in the bumper.
The full setup includes everything you need to reliably max out a stock 1.6 or 1.8 miata motor except for a clutch and a boost controller. This setup includes the DIY setup, along with the intercooler. It adds onto that with a MSPNP-Pro from DIYAutotune. That is a MS3 based stand alone ECU that includes phone support from DIY along with a free copy of Tuner Studio's (a $70 value). You get FlowForce 640cc EV14 injectors. These are a modern day injector that will work great at the low pulse widths idle needs, while still supplying more then enough fuel for your motor. They are PNP into the fuel rail with wiring harness adapters the make the wiring a breeze. You get to choose between either an AEM UEGO or Innovative MXT-L wideband O2 sensor. The 1.6 setups come with a vtps conversion kit that is PNP to convert the stock TPS to a variable one. The oil line setup is included in the full setup also. Along with an intake an a K&N filter. This is everything you need to take your miata from 95-115whp to 180-240whp. The only things you have to add on yourself is a stronger clutch, manual or electronic boost controller, and a drill bit and tap for the oil pan
The sale will be for the first 10 customers of any of the setups. There will be a non-refundable deposit, unless we find someone to take your order, to officially get in. Once you have placed your deposit I will start ordering all the parts I don't have on hand, or that will get drop shipped. This is the MSPNP-Pro, Injectors, and Wideband O2 will all get sent out first to get you started. The rest of the setups will ship as I get all the parts in and the hardware built.
Currently I have 3 NA exhausts on hand, and 2 NB exhausts. I am working on manifolds, and those will be finished up as orders are placed, so I know what exactly to build. All the intercooler setups are figured out and I am currently working on getting spares of all the piping done and on hand for shipment. I am hoping to have the first 5 setups shipped by the end of July. The other 5 will probably start shipping mid August and on out after that. The big hold up there is I need to get more mid pipes from my supplier and I won't be doing that until the start of August once I have all the orders from this sale in, so that I make sure I get everything I need for what gets ordered.

Someone smarter than me should look through CXRacing's catalog and see if they can find a ball bearing turbo that's similar in size to this turbo
You're not going to find a smaller ball bearing t3 (t3/t4) churbo. You'll need to move on to name brand stuff for that. I know the T04B is an ancient compressor but I'm surprised the spool is that bad on your car. That turbo is/was used a lot on hondas and the spool was significantly better with a journal bearing.
I love my MK Turbo. I have 23,000 miles and 196 1/4 miles on it, split between 2 turbos. I just blew my stock motor at the drag strip pushing over 20psi and the turbos are in great shape.
I did waste 2 medium T3's, both because of boost leaks. Both my fault for modifying too much other stuff when I was trying the medium turbos out. No turbo will tolerate being driven with a major boost leak AFAIK.
Also, with a "proper" EBC I was able to spool the large T3 to 20psi in 1st gear by redline.
How about putting what your car is in your sig. Run it at wastegate pressure and enjoy life.

People that have been running this set up for a couple of years now, could you post up some reviews? Just trying to see how reliable the churbo is.
Both Bahurd and sonofthehill bought back years ago in my original group buy. You probably won't find any active members on mt.net that have more time then them. I think out of the 50 or so setups I have sold, I have seen between 4-6 turbo failures. One swallowed something and needed a new impeller wheel and it was fine. 2 died due to oiling issues from the motor. Then all the others have died with hard use up above 15psi. If you stick between 8-12psi it should live for a good long time. Probably won't be as long as an EFR or Garrett, but a replacement is $200 if you ever need one.

Thanks for the info. After running the larger journal bearing turbo I'm realizing spool on the BB wasn't that bad after all. I want to set up EBC using this turbo, then I will go back to the T04B and try it again. It definitely kept more turbine speed between shifts and boost didn't drop off much, compared to the journal which feels like it loses half it's speed before you get into the next gear. This one spools 15psi in 1st, the BB turbo only did 5psi haha.
I've put about 15k miles on mine over the last 2 years. Running 14psi most of the time on my stock VVT motor. A few HPDE track days and the rest on the street. No issues and loads of fun for not much money. Totaly win.

I was the guy you emailed back/forth with a bunch last week using a BEGI #3 IC.
Your mid pipe and muffler are sitting in my living room floor. I realized I did not weld in the O2 bung, so the down pipe is sitting on a work bench to get that welded on this afternoon. Then I am working on your manifold, technically building 3 at the moment. I got the weld el's cut and beveled last night. So tonight is starting to weld it all together. Shooting for getting everything shipped next week except for the turbo like we talked about.
I installed my MKTurbo kit on my NB2 last November. I have been daily driving it since then with no issues. It has completely transformed the car for the better, would buy again!
clean install/bay. you should re-do the wg signal source to post-ic and add a boost controller, you'll be surprised at how much better your boost onset will get
