Hate to break it to you but that transmission pictured is a 5 speed...

Why do you think it is a 5 speed I was judging by the shifter it was a 6 speed. I have had about 6 miata 5 speed transmissions and have never seen one with a shifter like this. I drove the car around a small lot before it was taken apart but it had an aftermarket shift **** and I never thought to check how many gears it had I assumed it was a 5 speed until it was removed.

 

Later 5speeds have that top plate in front of the shifter. 6speeds can be identified by alot of extra ribbing. Pictured below is a early 5speed and a 6speed.
