Default Timing issue

Hello all,

I just installed megasquirt and did a coolant reroute having to take out the CAS, trying to hit 2 birds with 1 stone. I go to verify my timing and the TDC mark is WAAAY off from the little measuring bit on top of the pulley.. When I say WAAAY off I mean the mark for TDC is on almost the opposite side the pulley when looking at the timing using the timing light. I'm not sure how to adjust the timing enough (safely) to bring the TDC mark back to where it should be so I can adjust my timing using megasquirt and such...

If when out the the car the CAS was rotated multiple times before being put back in would that drastically mess up the timing?

This is really odd because the car idles perfectly on its own...
I hope this all makes sense, I can try to get a picture the timing as it is on the car but just imagine the TDC mark on the pulley is easily over 60 degrees off of where it should be....

This is my first time verifying timing and installing a megasquirt so I apologize if I'm just being a total newb here...

Thoughts?

AJ

Your pulley may be failing. The OEM pulley is of metal/rubber construction and the outer ring can slip. Bring your engine to true TDC on #1 and see how the pulley marks line-up.

So crank the engine to TDC then check timing again?

Update: I manually aligned the pulley so the TDC marks aligned and rechecked the timing and had the same issue, unless what you were saying was the pulley is reading incorrectly, then cranking it to what seemed to be TDC was actually not...?

I've got no clue, I did have my alternator belt snap while driving a few month ago.. don't know if that's helpful info...

Remove cylinder 1 spark plug and put a long screwdriver in. Rotate the engine with a wrench until the screwdriver is on his highest point. Then check if the tdc on the pulley lines up with your 0° on the cover

I did the test and I've concluded my harmonic balancer is toast... thanks for the help!

I prefer using the oil dipstick just so you won't risk having the screwdriver tip scratching around the cylinder.
