Default Reverant MS2 help wanted

Hi guys,

as the title says, the time has come for me to request some help with my MS2 built by Reverant.

Some info first: I bought mine from another forum member some months ago. My car is a 96 NA with no turbo right now. The car starts and runs pretty well with the map that Rev installed in the MS. I'm surprised at how good the car works even though I just got my wideband O2 sensor replacement and the car is currently running without one and also because of the location my local mechanic decided to use to install the AIT sensor. I'll take a pic later on and show the location.

My first question is:

no matter what I do, I can't connect my laptop to the MS through TunerStudio. My pc is running Windows 10. I had my son download and install the latest drivers for my USB to RS232 adapter cable and I also bought the male/femaie RS232 to connect it to the MS2. I get a ping on my pc when I connect the cable and I also checked the Windows 10 "device manager" and can also see the cable on my devices list.

Could there be some compatibility issues with the adapter and Windows 10?

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Rafa

Ms2 does not like certain USB to serial adapters. Some exceptionally cheap ones will not auto-load the proper drivers or something.

Try swapping drivers, which is probably a pain on W10. If it says prolific anything, throw it in the trash. FTDI is the one you want, apparently.

thanks man. I'm screwed then. I don't think I'll find the FTDI one locally and mine is definitely a Prolific one.

love this forum.

Pat already messaged me telling me he'll buy it and send it to me from DIY.

I owe you one Pat.

Happy Holidays (the politically correct way)

Is that the AIT sensor in the plenum? If so, is it an open element sensor?

If it's a GM open element sensor, you might be ok. I tested my open-element GM AIT sensor at idle, using a heat gun to heat the body of the sensor. I got the body of the sensor super hot, but the actual air temp it showed did not shoot up.

I now have the AIT sensor in the charge pipe, but I've considered putting it in the plenum just so it's more accurate one day.

Yeah, it is. I just asked my mechanic to change it to where Reverant suggests (in the same place as the OEM maf sensor).

The thing is, you use a supercharger.

BTW, thanks a lot for everything. You rock,

Rafa

Rafa!

Naturally aspirated? I guess you are having trouble finding technology savvy mechanics still?

Hey shooter!

yep. No way to find a qualified mechanic around here.

Any way you can check why I'm not getting email notifications from threads I've subscribed to?

thanks,

Rafa

I don't have a way, but you should be able to click the thread tools dropdown at the top of this page and check your subscription to this thread for email notifications. The main settings for all subscriptions is under User CP in a link that will pop up on the left task bar.

Back again.

I got (thanks to Pat) and installed the USB to Serial cable adapter with its drives from DIY and I still can't connect to the MS2. I verified that its driver was working properly.

Can someone tell me what settings should I be looking for in the Communications of the MS2?

Thanks,

Rafa

My guess is it's a windows 10 driver issue. I have one cable that works fine with windows 10 and another that doesn't. You could just keep trying different ones to find one that works for you. Sadly I don't remember the brand of the one I currently have but I'm sure I bought it from monoprice.com. It's a 6ft cable.

I had some issues connecting to my megasquirt several months back and Matt @ DIYAutotune was nice enough to walk me through some troubleshooting. My issue ended up being with the firmware, once I flashed new firmware it's worked perfect since.

Here's a link to the thread: https://www.miataturbo.net/megasquir...connect-83436/

Hopefully that will help lead you toward a solution.

So, I've been reading pdexta's thread; one dumb question: how do I reflash the firmware?

And also; how can I find out which firmware my MS has installed?

Reflashing is easy. First, you connect the Megasquirt to your laptop... oh, wait.

That depends on whether the MegaSquirt has no communication, period, or is merely not communicating with TunerStudio. HUGE difference.
