MX5 VVT swap troubles
#21
OK, this covers what you did at the engine end. How did you wire things up at the ECU end? I did my swap with a non-PnP MS3/MS3X, so I may be wrong, but I don't think you can just plug in the PnP 90-93 MSPro and have it work with a VVT engine, even with the above changes. I think you also have to route the crank and cam signals to the proper pinouts for that ECU. Same with the TPS, which could explain why you don't have 5V at the TPS...

Worry about your basic wiring before you get concerned about settings in TunerStudio.

- TPS wiring I facepalmed my *** of after I realized that I misswired my TPS, I used the 94 car wiring colors for the TPS wiring, which have the green white and green black wires different then the 91 miata. and I kept saying it was correct :( I'm sorry. I corrected the wiring and put the TPS signal on the right pin. Besides the fuse was blown due to these mistakes I made
The wiring of the cam and crank sensors should be correct I checked the years.
Now its only waiting for the 16pin connector amd fuses to arrive and I'll update you then.

Ok so to update you guys on what is going on:
- I ordered a lot of fuses because I know I'll blow a lot of them. And so it happens:
when I unplug the 16pin connector (the connector where the 5vref for the tps comesfrom and the ground. And the cam and cranks sensor signals) and the F1 fuse is in place it gets 12v on each side. As soon as I try to do the same with both fuses in place (F2 and F1), F1 blows.
I tried so many possible combinations to find out what the problem is but I can not find it.
Kind regards, Cedric

Funny thing just happend:
I decided to check the connectors by its self. I left connector 1 plugged in so the MS3 can have its 12v. After trying that it succefully booted without blowing any fuse.
Now I connected the 16 pin connector where the tps signal, 5v and ground are on now, the cam signal wire and the crank signal wire. the 16 pin connectorThe TPS works awesome which made my happy like a kid on Christmas. There is no signal on the diagnostics tab. the blue wavy animation only lasts less then a second.
so I guess the problem must be with the other connector. Any suggestions on what it might be.

90-93 Mspnp pro issues
Dear awesome community,
Im in the end phase of my vvt swap for my 91 miata. After having blown countless fuses I got somewhat of a progression. I've cut the 5v, ground and signal wire of the tps and the cam and crank signal wires. Then I connected these with a 16 pin connector (connector 3 on the ecu).
Now with connector 1 and 3 connected the tps works fine and no fuses blow. But I do not get any signal from the crank or cam sensor (tested with the composite logger)
I will check this evening what happens when I connect connector 4. presumably F2 blows because thats what kept happening.
What might be causing these issues ?
Very kind regards cedric
