Im in the end phase of my vvt swap for my 91 miata. After having blown countless fuses I got somewhat of a progression. I've cut the 5v, ground and signal wire of the tps and the cam and crank signal wires. Then I connected these with a 16 pin connector (connector 3 on the ecu). ecu with 16pin connector connected
Now with connector 1 and 3 connected the tps works fine and no fuses blow. But I do not get any signal from the crank or cam sensor (tested with the composite logger)
I will check this evening what happens when I connect connector 4. presumably F2 blows because thats what kept happening.
Well,
After following all the steps in the instructions on how to instal the megasquirt I loaded up the basemap for the vvt engine which is from an 03. I used the VTPS from that engine aswell. I wired the tps wrong and thus blew the fuse. I rewired the tps and now its working. But as soon as I plug in the bigger factory plug, a fuse blows on the ms3 board
I would have brought the vTPS in through the OE TPS wires, and the crank/cam via the CAS connector.
are you trying to have the MS provide the 12v to power the crank and cam sensors???
I did it that way because with the VVT swap is was neccesairy to splice the cas plug to the cam and crank sensor. I only used the signal wires in the 16 pin connector. The ground and 12 volts are still in the stock ecu harnas.
This is what you get when you don't follow the VVT megathread wiring instructions
the cas is spliced and wired as instructed in your thread.
the only thing that changed is the location of the signal wires. and the tps.
Can't I use both connectors at the same time then ?
