Default MSPNP MM9495 Base Map Update Available

The latest MM9495 Base Map for the 1994-1995 Miata is available at the link below, updates were focused on closed loop idle control improvement. Oscillation should be virtually if not completely eliminated while maintainly good control and recovery of idle speed.

http://megasquirtpnp.com/mspnp_downloads.htm

For those that are already up and running the MSPNP MM9495 and are just interested in moving over to these new settings, here they are:

I've thoroughly tested these settings, and others have been testing as well, all with good results. I've tried hard to put the car in challenging situations for idle control, with still good results. I did have one stall the other night with AC on while in heavy stop and go traffic for about an hour. Not bad but not ideal of course. I'm testing further, and what I suspect will help a bit are the exact settings above, with a slight reduction in "Idle Activation Adder" to maybe 450rpm, and possibly an increase in 'Dashpot Adder' to 2dc. That's something you can play with IF you have an issue with this. If not I'd leave the settings as they are. I had to beat on the car to make this happen.

Note the 'TPS Threshold' is vehicle specific, and should be set as per the info in the MSPNP MM9495 manual.

Would you expect similar setting to work well with the MM9093 with variable TPS added?

Yes and no. Some of the settings yes. Some are model specific though.

Here's a breakdown of exactly what you'd need to know to use these on a MM9093 car:

First Page
The settings in the top 1/3 of the first page are model specific, don't copy these onto a non MM9495 car or you'll freak the idle valve out.

The settings in the middle 1/3 of the first page are fine to copy to a MM9093.

The settings in the bottom 1/3 of the first page are NOT ok to copy onto an MM9093 in stock configuration (meaning without a variable TPS). However, if you have a variable TPS, they are fine to copy, but you need to configure the TPS Threshold SPECIFICALLY for your car or it won't work right.

Second Page
All of the settings on the 'Idle Control Continued' page (2nd page) should help on the MM9093 as well. They should be fine to use as is.

Feedback from MM9093 users setup exactly as I've described here
Set it up this way, drive around on it for a week or so, and shoot me a PM or Email and let me know what you think. It should prevent any oscillation, and recover quickly enough when the AC is activated. Without a variable TPS added don't expect miracles when the A/C is on and you're coming to a quick stop though...

I got to drive Jerry's nice MSPNP powered 95M.

I have to say that his closed loop idle settings are NAILED. A/C on, A/C off, clutch at 3k, clutch at 1k, didn't matter. Idle recovery was nice and smooth with no/minimal recover oscillations.

Car ran like a champ too.

I thought I had my closed loop idle pretty good... until I drove Jerry's car. I have work to do! Going to try these settings first...

On the topic of idle. Do you guys know if the NB idle valve is a different style? I'm going to modify my harness while I have it out to to control idle so we can mess with this later on. For now i'm going to let the stock ECU control it though. Someone said something about a wax valve or something weird that the NB's may or may not have.

it's exactly that mate, the NB's don't have a wax valve (which lets more air into the engine when it's cold)

For reference-- the settings on my 95M as Ben drove it are exactly as pictured above (and as released in the new base map) with one change, "Idle Activation Adder" is now set to 450rpm. Keep in mind the fuel/spark tables are dialed in just right for this car-- they have to be right for anything else to matter....

I have a 2000 engine and throttle body, with 2000 valve. I added idle control to my MS, but haven't wired the valve to the ECU yet (since it's a 94 car, the plug was different). Does the diode have to actually go at the valve, or can it go inside the MS? If I were to put it inside the MS, how would I wire it? Once I connect the valve, should these settings have me ready to go? I've actually been idling just fine with no idle valve control at all. It's really nasty during startup, but once the car is warm idle is rock solid. So I'm mostly looking to improve my cold start behavior.

It should be between the same 12v source as is driving the idle valve, and the other PWM'd ground wire to the idle valve (from the MS).

As for correcting cold start though, the idle valve may help a little by idling it up when cold, but that's usually a afterstart enrichment and warmup enrichment tuning thing. As well as the cold AE (accel enrichment) multiplier.

I've got a MS'd car with no idle valve at all, my 86 MR2 turbo car, that idles very low when it starts, but it still behaves fairly well. An idle valve would help, but on this particular car it's not been required...
