There used to be a page on Megasquirt.info tied to one of the beta releases of MSII that explained in detail why 36-1 (or any other number). All I can remember right now is that it had something to do with being a multiple of 4 with a 4 cylinder engine.
Ideally, more teeth = more timing resolution and therefore better timing accuracy but many ECU's aren't powerful enough to count each tooth, only the missing one as a tach reference point. EDIS might be, though, since it's a specialized unit. Not sure.

I had started the crank pulley trigger wheel project before MSIIextra became compatible with the CAS. I also wanted to set my project apart from other MS-II installs. I think installing a crank trigger wheel will open future doors for my Megasquirt system. It looks pretty too....
