Default motor back in, running rich and backfires

put my motor back in after fixing the oil leaks( was running fine the first day of driving again ). the car is running rich when it is in gear and i let off the gas. pops and afrs spike. some of the pops i can see a bit of soot from my tailpipe. took a log of what is happening. how could i fix this?

never happend before i pulled motor. never tuned the car just uploaded a afr target table brain gave me and ran the ve analyze.

also noticed that the afrs are sporadic when i am cruising holding the throttle.

started log right before i replicated the issue, you can see the TP and my afrs spike in the beginning.

the car idles fine and isnt running rough or anything..

*forgot to mention i have a brainbuilt ms2, 460cc injectors.

You ever set the base timing after re-assembly?

No. Timing seems fine at idle and any other time.

I did.t touch the timing belt or separate head. I just re sealed oil pan, rear main seal and the cap on the valve cover ( back of head, exhaust side)

Sounds like it'd be a good idea to go through this thread starting around the middle of post #7 "Configuring your sensors": Engine Management Megasquirt DIYPNP "How-To" - Step-By-Step Instructions - Miata Forumz - Mazda Miata Chat Forums

You probably have some fubar calibration/settings going on.

i tried this and still have the issue. Today after paying more attention to the problem, i noticed it only happens when my rpms are between 2k and 3.2k. i tried decelerating at 5k and it didnt happen.

i checked the ground wire under the throttle body bracket and it was a bit loose. sanded it down along with the screw then tightened it up. car ran fine when i went for a spin around town to test. hopefully it wont act differently in the heat. thx for help gays.

Also, I had my CAS incorrectly adjusted and it made the car backfire a few months ago and this blew-out the front cam seals. I highly recommend you check them.

Does the VC need to come off or can I take the timing cover off and inspect for leak?
