Megasquirt for 2002 Miata questions
Hi Everyone,
A couple months ago I bought a 2002 SE miata for doing some lapping in the firm intention to keep it stock! Yeah... that Idea didn't last...
So, now that I want to turbo it, I got a Megasqirt. I got a really good deal on a megasqirt.I knew it wasn't the top of the line but I thought that a Miata is a really simple car and it would be A LOT easier the trying to assmble a Speeduino! While doing some research, I learn that I needed a board to control the alternator (I, m not 1005 sure why/what in the alternator is controlled from the ECU). I thought, It wasn't a big deal, it seems to be 50$ on eBay. But I realised that I couldn't control the VVT without a VVT module.. that is a lot more expensive for a cheap kit!
So, after doing more research, I realised that I bought a megasquirt 1 BUT with a 3.0 board so it's not too bad, I can make a megasquirt 3 with it.
I I found trubokitty that show exactly how to make a megasqirt3 with a V3 board. So it's not too bad!
Now, I have many, many other questions that I can't seem to find out....
1- Does my V3 board (modified with the info from truboKitty) with a MS3 daughter board will be able to control my alternator and my VVT or I need something else?
2- Do I really need the Expension? Every where it's written that It's better, but I can't see why for an old mate that I will put a turbo on...
3- When I bought the kit, It came with a harness. Can I use this one/can I modify this one or I have to buy a new harness to connect to car to the MS3 (extended or not)
4- Some companies (like SpeedyEFI) sell kits that includes a total body position sensor. Do I need one with the MS3 (extended or not)?
5- The kit I bought came with a temperature sensor.. I know that I need a wideband and I could buy a boost controller (I saw that on the TruboKitty website). Do I need or should I buy anything else?
My goal is to make more power (something around 250 HP) with the least amount of money BUT I do not what to compromise reliability!
Here are 2 pictures showing exactly what I bought.
Thank you very much for your help!
