Help getting a Miata CAS signal working on Microsquirt
Fighting major sync loss and strange behavior in tooth logger while cranking on 4g63 pattern using Miata Cam angle sensor, hall version.
RPM reads ~150-200 for 1 second then drops to zero, then goes back to 150. This pattern then continues to repeat. Cannot get a consistent looking tooth pattern at all.
Logs and tune attached.
16v MK2 Golf (I know not a miata, forgive me, this place is my last resort)
Microsquirt v3
Audi COPS in waste spark (coils unplugged currently while testing to eliminate noise as potential issue)
VR1- and VR2- 1k resistors wired from 5v tps vref to each sensor wire per MS documentation.
CAS is wired using 3 insulated wires and 1 bare wire. Insulated = 12v, Inner, and Outer. The bare wire is used for sensor ground, and the shield is also ran to the same sensor ground (Could this be an issue, that both the shielding and ground for the CAS are sharing a ground and also touching each other?).
When I use tooth logger it increments to 3 or 4 bars then appears to reset. (Tooth and sync log attached).
I tried to look at Sync Log but I can't figure out how to view it (I'm new to all this, forgive me)
RPM reads ~150-200 for 1 second then drops to zero. This pattern then continues to repeat. Cannot get a consistent looking tooth pattern at all.
While spinning the cas manually I get either 5v or 0v as expected when cas is rotated by hand and wires backprobed. Seems to be working when manually tested, but when cranking, the strange tooth/rpm pattern shows.
If anyone has any ideas please let me know, this car is starting to frustrate me beyond belief. All other sensors read fine.
Thx!

Check out my thread on msextra. I did get it sorted out, but to be honest I'm not sure entirely what fixed it. But lots of good info here

Yeah, I think ultimately it was the input capture. When I was testing with a drill, I believe it was spinning in opposite direction, then once it was on the motor it was spinning the other way. That's a bit odd that it's grayed out for you, maybe try updating tunerstudio to the latest version and then update your firmware of your megasquirt? Just make sure to back up your tune file before upgrading.
