Default Flame suit on- General MS ign problem

Hey guys, Im posting this here because through the flaming this is the most informative and helpful site I know.

Im helping a mate with a MSpnp (microsquirt based) AW11 install (series 1 MR2).

rather than use toyotas odd ignition system we are getting the triggers directly from the 2 hall effect sensors inside the dizzy. one on a cam and the other a 24 tooth wheel.

Heres the problem, Dizzy spun by hand or in drill (everything wired and installed in car here) and we get a great signal. ecu starts firing spark and fuel etc.

Dizzy 90% of the way in the dizzy opening, spin it with your fingers and we get good signal as above.

Dizzy 90% in, spun by hand, cranking engine, good signal everything fine.

Just that last 10% of the way in, let the cam spin the dizzy, no signal at all.

What the hell.

Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Dann

First question: What 4AGE variant is this distributor from? Toyota had a couple different distributor designs out there.

Second question: How have you wired up the distributor inside the MSPNP?

Please note that you're not going to have Hall effect sensors inside a Toyota distributor unless you yourself put them there. All 24 / 1 trigger Toyota distributors that I have ever seen were VR sensors.

I have a question, when you say cranking engine I'm assuming there's voltage at the sensors right? ie: it's not dropping voltage to the trigger while cranking (I had this problem in a Holden EH when I converted it to efi).

Have you verified the cam is indeed spinning the dizzy?
The shaft might not be long enough

Sorry your right VR, typed this is a hurry.

Its out of a jdm 4agze, it has a cam wheel and a 24 tooth wheel with no teeth missing, With 2 vr sensors.

Yes there is voltage, as I can crank the engine with everything connected but spin the sizzy by hand and get a signal while cranking.

Yes the cam is spinning the dizzy, im doing these tests with no dizzy cap and this is the engines original dizzy.

Any more suggestions?

Dann
PS Matt im not home so ill check the wiring directly then report back. The board is a PNP for a N/A MR2.

cheers mate.
