Default Easiet way to log/VEanalyze?

Hey all,

As I am getting more comfortable with fine tuning my MS3, I imagine there are better ways to tune/analyze on a daily basis. Currently I am using my crappy tuning laptop (with about a 30 minute battery life). This means I can only complete shot trips and need to constantly worry about some meth head breaking in to steal it.

From what I see, there is not a good apple app at this point, but possibly a good android solution is out there?

I would like an easy/permanent solution for long trips and daily convenience. Does it exist?

MSDroid for Android devices works great for logging, then I transfer the file to a computer to adjust the tune with Megalogviewer.

I've run into problems with some devices that have USB Host Mode disabled in the software, which turned out to be well over my head. I had trouble identifying which devices it would and would not work with.

If you have an Android phone, download MSDroid and give it a try. I can verify that it worked with my Galaxy S3 phone (before it died). Currently I'm using a $42 RCA tablet I bought at Walmart and it's worked for me and it seems to have plenty of battery life.

Cool- thanks for the link! You just use the mini USB port on that to connect? Are you able to VE analyze with it?

Yeah, I just bought a cheap female usb to male micro-usb cable on amazon/ebay. You can view the log with MSDroid, but there's no VE Analyze that I've found (at least in the free version). You can edit the tune manually but it's very tedious. I use it strictly for datalogging so I can edit the tune later unless there's something I desperately need to get in and change.

The MS3 accepts an SD card. Logs all the time without any wires...

I've been using my nexus 7 for while with MS droid. It's been amazingly helpful in dialing in a tune that was already pretty close. All you need is a USB OTG cable to plug into the USB-serial adapter. You can't use VE analyze but you can take logs to get tune updates with mega log viewer. The tablets aren't going to charge while acting as a USB host in this manner though (more on that in a second)

In my setup, I'm trying to take the additional step of having a semi-permanet install with the tablet turning on and off with ignition, being charged while driving, and automatically loading the MS droid app when it detects the MS is connected. The trouble is for the charging part, there are a couple ways to do it, but the free way is really buggy and does not always work. The one guy who has it figured out wants $30 for his ROM. It's supposed to work great but this Android level stuff is supposed to be open source and freely available. Since the charging part is the only thing I haven't nailed yet, I may just try going Bluetooth, which would free up USB resources for charging. MS droid is almost good enough to replace your instrument cluster with. It's a great app and almost all of the features are enabled on the free version.
