Dimitris, I'm surprised you dont use the laser printer / acid soak method to etch your own pcbs from clad.
you ever use www.advancedcircuits.com ? their bare bones PCBs are downright cheap.

Here's a large 16x2 dot matrix backlit display module for only $12. Prob too big for the temp gauge area, but may be nice for the under-the-radio panel.
