99-00 Ms2 start up problems.
Hey guys, so I've been doing a lot of researching (I suck with google, so please by all means prove me wrong), and cannot find a single thing even close to what I have going on.
I have a fully PnP Ms2, no wiring/soldering required. Haven't been able to get it to run, at all, until tonight.
I have followed all installation instructions to a point, and even started from ground zero a dozen times over just to be sure everything was correct. MAF unplugged, speed density vacuum line hooked up, timing adjusted (1 of the 3 problems I will mention)
Here's what's happening: (3 problems total)
1: When you're finally lucky enough to get the car to start up (1 outta 10 attempts with cranking the engine) it misfires/runs on 2 cylinders. Takes A LOT of throttle feathering to get the engine to start up.
2: (might have figured this out, but since the car starts 1/10 times, I haven't gotten it to run to see) Basically, the tach in the car reads about 1/2 of what the tach in tuner studio reads (600-800rpm in car = 1500-1900rpm in tunerstudio). I think I found the setting that caused this, but as I mentioned, the car won't start up every time. So I have yet to get lucky and make it run to test this.
3: I cannot calibrate the ignition timing the way that the instruction manual instructs to do. Trigger offset (when fixed advance is set to fixed timing, then base timing set to 10* as instructions say to do) has no effect on timing. When I check the ignition timing with my light, it reads 13* (stock 4-tooth wheel), then when I try to correct what the computer reads (again, following the instructions), the timing on the crank pulley changes to 14*, and only keeps moving when I try to make the readings match.
So far, I've confirmed that the coils fire (OEM 99-00 coils for now, Fab9 COP after the megasquirt is fully functional), all decently bright (it's dark out now, just checked them). When I pulled the plugs, cylinder 1 & 3 were black as black can be, whole cylinder 2&4 were white as sour cream! My guess is that 2&4 aren't getting any fuel whatsoever, which is why it won't hardly start, and when it does it runs on 2 cylinders (duh right?).
Anywho. If anyone can offer up some help before I email DIY Autotune, that'd be great. I was planning on installing my turbo kit this weekend, so the ms2 is a definite must.
Thanks again!

On a side note, who's the guy on here that is the go-to-guy to send a mega squirt to, to be fixed (or checked out)? I've seen a couple people say they sent their mega squirt to him, but I cannot seem to find that thread, or remember his name for the life of me lol

By the way. Thanks for the info. Anything helps. I'm totally stumped as to why it won't run. Never has from day one (bought it over a year ago, never would run the car, put it in a box and forgot about it until a few days ago due to frustration..), and when it has run, it's done all this same stuff that I previously mentioned, I'm starting to think the ms2 is just messed up..
