Hi all. Miata owner stuck on an island in the Pacific here.
I have a 1993. My wife and I wanted something to do and its been our first project. It was full of cockroaches when we first dug into it, so there is almost no interior.
1993 after purchase
It has exploded due to incompetence once. Then it spun a rod bearing at the autocross. I'm assuming the unknown and probable awful maintenance history is responsible for that.
Oh No the Engine Left!
The good 1.8L market out here is almost non-existent, and I'd want to rebuild one anyway. So we decided to bore it out to 79mm, drop in forged 8.8:1 Supertechs, Manley rods, a fancy oil pump, King bearings, and attach a lightweight flywheel. Its getting blueprinted and balanced right now. Sometimes I have more money than sense
Work to Do:
Reinstall Engine and Transmission along with all the rubber bushings and bits I have sitting around in the back room.
Find a 1.8 Diff/Driveshaft/Axles
Install Those
Install FM Springs / Tokico Shocks with Mounts (Got these for cheap, better than the butchered KYBs with collapsed mounts in the car)
Install Coolant Reroute
Install Carpets
Install and Tune the Megasquirt 2 Enhanced I just ordered.
Future:
Continue debating about Superchargers or Turbochargers for autocross use.
Slightly leaning towards Superchargers at the moment. It switches daily though.
Wheels / Tires to hold the power.

On Oahu we have a small dirt track for right now. The autox is done in the lower parking lot of the Aloha stadium. Its a pretty small setup, but lends to some decently challenging courses. The kids run their karts before the main event starts.
