Sunburst from Northern California
I promised my wife many years ago that when I got another uncontrollable urge for a motorcycle I'd get a Miata instead. Four years ago it happened!
Always liked yellow cars, so I found this Sunburst up in Portland on Auto Trader, flew up and drove it home. Been modifying ever since.
As you can see, my first efforts were more form > function. Wish I had know then what I know now - learned mostly from lurking on forums like this one. The FCM suspension 425/300 F/R is OK, wish I had 700/400 now. Double Hoop Maxx is OK, would be far better for track and twisties with Blackbird Fabworks with door bars, 14 x 7 RPF1 should be 15 x 8 Kosei C4M or something light weight like that. Interior should be Kirkey Pro-Drag with custom padding, and on and on it goes!
Don't get me wrong - I love everything about my car. It is so cool that changes are easy (except for money!) and we have so many options with dedicated Miata guys like FM, 949, Goodwin, FCM, and so many more.
I love track days, and I run with a group in the Bay Area who loves fast driving in the twisties of Northern California, and there are many! My goals for the car now are to get it as light and fast as I can and still be able to DD anywhere. Don't mind discomfort, and now firmly believe in Function > Form. Still need lots of information and always will be looking to improve my Miata. Ken

Needs turbo.
I really like that color on the Miata.
I've got FCM 550/325. Surprisingly comfortable, even on rough roads. I agree, 700/400 from FCM would be very streetable. XIDA's are supposed to be outstanding too.
How are the Double Maxx's with the broomstick test? Have you thought of the Boss Frog door bars?
Don't think I'd ever do 14" wheels. Tire selection sucks for those. Even 15" is starting to get harder. I like RPF1's, but brake space is pretty limited.

Welcome.
Always a treat having more function>form guys on here.
What makes you say just OK about the fcm? I thought those were the cats meyaw prior to the xidas and supposed to be the end all be all of street suspensions? Or are you referring to their performance only and not feel/comfort? Since you want stiffer springs I'm guessing that's it, but can you clarify?

hornetball - Double Hoop Maxx sucks at broomstick test. I have to recline to pass and that doesn't feel safe. Trying to fit the Pro Drag seats (or any low seat) also sucks. Either the seat is angled or the headrest is not centered in the hoop when I set it low and back enough to work. 17" width doesn't help, but you can't fight mother nature!
BF door bars would be a possibility if I wasn't already fighting the broomstick test. Think I'll just wait till I can afford Moti.
You're right about the 14" wheels. Trying to decide right now between 185/60 Z-II or 205/55 Nt01/R888. Might just give up, sell the 14s and buy 15s. Love the super light weight, though. Function>Form.
18psi - FCM are great, very comfortable yet great handling. Couldn't believe the comfort increase driving home from Shaik's place the day we did the install. Just need to increase spring rates and have Shaik re-valve the Bilsteins, I guess.
Still trying to figure out the multi-quote feature. Maybe next time.
