Smile Somewhat of a New Guy from San Diego California

So.. Hello,
my name is JUANMEGATRON.
Some of you might know me here already by my epic postings in the mustang gt vs turbo miata thread a few months ago.
Anyway, I wanted now to have the formal introduction that of the caliber of Luke Skywalker and give salutations to every member of the turbo miata community via threadstarter. but most of all pardon myself for having forgotten about this forum and its great input it has had in my life. I love lamp to say the least. What has brought me back from the lost paradise is the spotting of what seems to be a performance miata shop across the street from Pearson Fuels of San Diego California, a fueling station where I purchase e85 from for my vehicle. After my last visit to the station, it has left me pondering if any members here get their miatas serviced or if the owner of the shop of Dennstedt's Auto Repair posts here.

Here is a link to the google map and reviews results for their shop.
They seem to be great candidates for those local to San Diego

http://maps.google.com/maps/place?ci...1&spn=0,0&z=16

Further I would like to challenge anyone that reads this to a rap battle.

I remember you 18 pee-essay, I remember you quite well. As a matter of fact I would still love to race my NOS powered Eagle Talon against your Miata Turbo anytime, anytime, anytime. Here in San Diego I have encountered a single miata that was turbo but did not want to want to have fun together. Making it very clear, a quick half gear pull in my talunzzz might have scared him into a state of going 15 miles under the limit and fade into my rear view. Most likely it was my muffler valve that opened up once RPM hit high and revealed the sleeping beast within. But none the less the hierarchy was clear who was the fastest out of the two. After waking up from my dream I had realized that the potential outcome of such race is really a toss up.

Anywho, I do not have a miata but do have the keys to my Talon while giving the local miata specialist shop an internetz thumbs up and making their front parking lot seem like a division of turbo miata dealership of north america. *wishing i had taken a pic right about now*

Thanks for the welcome Bob !

Its funny you mention Dennstedt's shop, yesterday I was talking to a friend of mine and he told me they do top notch work. The only part of my project I foresee myself outsourcing to a shop would be fabbing my intercooler setup; also maybe a legit dyno tune. Either way it's good to know there is a local shop that knows what they are doing. Sell the dsm, pick up a car that actually handles, and we can hit up some of the back roads SD has to offer. Oh and welcome!

Well, the Talon has been enough of a money pit thus far to keep me from buying anything other form of fun transportation. The other reason is that I just prefer drag racing as the type of fun. As far as selling my DSM, that is just not in my interest, I have thrown ridiculous amounts of money into it that I will be taking a huge financial hit if I were to sell it. As of right now it is running on a built engine, about 680 miles on the break in period. After the break in and a few tuning sessions I would like to see how it handles against a miata though on a road course since I have yet to test it on the twisties. It does ride on Tein SS coilovers, but everything else in the suspension is factory spec.

Thanks for the welcome whitelight

I hear you on the money pit bit, I've spent some change just getting my NA back up to spec. My wallet is going to hate me once I go down the performance ally. What is she making to the wheels with your current set up? Also as I am a local SDer I was wondering if you knew of any exceptional back roads or good drives around here? I've been scouting out open lots to head to just after we get some rain, but I haven't had any major luck. I know we have a nice drive along the coast, but I am craving some twisties.

I don't believe the progression this thread has made without the use of the banhammer. How about a gas powered 2 stroke NOS injected *****, you **** wrangler.

I have seen a few twisty events advertised before the end of the year. But you would have to check which weekends are available. SOW Streets of Willow, and Chuckwalla are kick *** but at 125-250 a weekend it may be out of reach for most like myself.

Oh yeah welcome

Yeah 250 is a bit on the steep side at the moment for a weekend. I was thinking of something less organized, more of a spot to cruse when I need to get my mind off of things. It seems there are a few of us located in SD, we should set up a meet.

Hey Everyone,
Sorry I had not checked this for a few days. I got busy helping a friend out install a clutch on his evo. In short, the clutch job on an evo was annoying and painful. Anyone doing a clutch job dont forget to inspect your rear main seal or replace it if its over 70k mi. I heard it leaked right after and had to do it all over again.

e85 is now $3.03 a gal here in san diego.. ugh.

As far as paying $250 for a day at the track I agree with WhiteLightning, it is currently out of reach for me because of the unexpected rod missap I went through this summer.. I think anything too far out of basic necessities is out of reach for many to say the least. I still need to do a few things before it is track worthy anyways.

One thing being that I have yet to dyno tune my heavy money pit since it just rolled over to the 900 miles of break in period with the new built engine.

I would really like to run 18psi none the less. Just before my factory engine decided to dump a rod on a tuning session it felt pretty fast X ). A new 6.2L SS camaro with a few bolt ons was left standing still with the same turbo setup I am currently running so it i highly doubt 18psi could leave me that far behind specially with the new build

imho I think it would be a good race but never think it could happen due to the 500 miles apart.

Aside from everything Kevinism the weather had been nice but a little cold lately for SoCal. It has been raining today all day. People are terrible drivers out here when the pavement is wet since it is very unfamiliar to see rain here.

So as of yesterday I no longer like that area where Dennstedt's shop is at. People around there are not fiendly at all in fact it is pretty ghetto. I was pretty much stranded with my Talon as I had adjusted the clutch rod too far out about 4 days ago to a point where it would hardly catch such that it only took a few miles of driving to find out. (i guess i had air bubles that bled out of the hydraulic clutch system and now I was sitting with a heavily slipping clutch that wouldnt engage).

I needed a 12mm wrench that I regreted not having in my car.

I am going to keep it short because it was pretty much one of those stories where you ask for help from someone/ a shop (one of em being Dennstedt's)/ and no one is willing to lend me a 12mm wrench or pliers for less than 5 minutes $5 in return..

Here is what was said when I walked to the alley of Dennstedt's into their shop.

me: "hey sorry to bother but I always see you working on miatas and was wondering if I could borrow a simple 12mm wrench, il give you $5 in return just to let me borrow it, my car is 2 blocks down, the clutch rod needs to be adjusted and only need a 12mm wrench I don't want to buy for a one time use at car quest over there.. I walked here to your shop, my car is just across the stret.. I have about ten 12mm wrenches at home just not here and don't want to pay 8.99 for another one thats why I came here maybe you can lend me one for less.."
old man from Dennstedt's: "what kinda car is it?"
me: "eagle talon"
old man from Dennstedt's: "*walks away to a miata he is working on* I am using my 12 right now"
me: "*glance over to the multiple stackable tool boxes* ..oh.. thanks anyways. *walks away*"

So they aren't friendly, and the old man is either some kind of white supremacy anti mexican coalition .. that works on japanese cars.. lol and I will stop right there because its just not cool as I would be falling into his kind of level.

That is my experience, they don't help people out and they are all about the business.. only your business.. your money to be exact.

What ever happened to people helping people when they need a hand?

which leads me to this, if anyone needs help working on their miata locally here in San Diego and was planing on taking it to Dennstedt's or just can't afford the labor let me know I might be able to help you work on your car if its nothing major. They are small and seem to be easy to work on. I have a great deal of tools and know how to turn them with some competence. Not to mention, I always wanted to meet someone local that has a turbo miata if anyone is cool and down to hang out sometime.
